aprilstarchild: (Rocks Fall! Everyone Dies!)
1. I just found out that the company-wide chart audit is the Saturday after I'd planned my birthday party. I can't get out of it (unless I had a paid-for plane ticket or a death in the family, I'm screwed). So far the best-looking option is to have my party Saturday night instead, and go to Noir instead of the Fez. I've been wanting to wear my gothic lolita dress again anyway. Especially with my new fishnets and those tall boots.

So to recap: Unless anyone has some serious objections, my 27th birthday will be celebrated on November 11th instead of the 10th. Let me know if that's a problem.

2. Jarrod and I watched both parts of a BBC program by Richard Dawkins last week, called "The Root of All Evil?" He's an evolution scientist, a published author, and very avowedly atheist. Some of the things he says in the BBC program, and in an NPR interview we listened to, have really blown my mind. Not that I'd call myself atheist or anything at this point. I still consider myself a panentheist Wiccan. But I can't help but wonder how much of that is simply because he's never thought about Pagans/Wiccans, or hasn't written/spoken about them that I've seen. All of his ire, that I can see, is focused on the major three monotheistic religions, and he really doesn't pull any punches with any of them.

Which led to my freaky dream last night, where I was at a Sunday service at the UCC church I used to attend, and Richard Dawkins was there with me. Partway into the service he jumps up to the pulpit and proceeds to tell everyone how wrong they are. And then, when he's done, he makes me go up and tell everyone I'm not Christian anymore. In the dream, I was terribly embarrassed. Figure that one out. I mean, I know where that came from--we watched an amateur-ish documentary where the guy announces his atheism in the (empty) chapel of the Christian school he used to attend. But the dream was still strange and left me with a weird feeling all day.

3. I made a broccoli and red pepper soup from The Garden of Vegan that was so freaking good, especially because I made biscuits to go with it, and put some of the same seasoning in them as in the soup. This cooking thing is fun.
