[livejournal.com profile] sagcat and Tyson and I went to see Heather Alexander at the Lucky Lab brewpub over in Multnomah Village. The acoustics upstairs are actually quite good--she wasn't amped at all and she sounded great. I was also sitting up front, though; so hey.

Tyson and I wore our pirate garb. *giggle* There was one other person there in garb, she says there's usually more--Heather plays there the last Monday of most months. Her and I had the same freaking boots, those Airwalk fake suede ones from Payless with the buckles. They're popular, I guess--my mom has them too, in the same color and size!

I'm going to attempt to make it there more often, Heather was awesome. I bought one of her (much older) CD's. Go me.

They have vegan pizza there. Kick ass. Also, fantastic beer. Yummy. And two of the twenty-odd people there were knitting.

I didn't recognize all of the songs, but then Heather's been playing for over ten years and has quite a repertoire of her own in addition to knowing a lot of more traditional tunes. Also she's in the process of three different albums, and played songs from those. One is based on a series of fantasy novels, one is sea chanties, the other is her more usual music.

She played one of my requests (Ichabod Crane!), and two of my favorite fiddle tunes (including Butterfly Jig and Swallowtail!), and Happenin' Frog of Cambreadth--almost everyone there knew the proper line to shout along. She played a drinking song that involved the audience thumping their glasses on the table, that was fun.

Re: Ichabod Crane: It's one of my favorites from the Enchantment album. Between songs I randomly shouted "Ichabod Crane!" and without a pause she said, "Yeah, okay." I laughed and said, "That was easy," and she replied, "Well, I tend to be." Everyone laughed and she got an embarassed look and said, "No, not like that!"

At some point there was also jokes about how hard it is to tune a guitar vs. tuning a harp. Hahaha audience response. Kick-ass.

Wheeeee! Okay, now off to get out of my bodice (which is admittedly kinda too big these days, le sigh) and fall into bed.

On another note: work today was odd, because we're short almost a third of our staff. Three people have gone part-time, one left, and we had one person on vacation and two out sick. Holy shit. I think everyone ended up doing two people's jobs. Including me. I was, in theory, in the middle answering phones, and then I ended up typing up Rx faxes for an hour when I got there, and then spent the rest of the day helping sign in charts from other locations. Oy freaking vey.

I need to get a halfway decent picture of myself in garb for an icon. I haven't been completely fond of any of the ones I have, and/or they wouldn't work at icon size, because you'd have to be able to see all of me.
