When you buy/sell on ebay (or wherever), do you enjoy getting/sending little notes?

I'm sending off the dresses I sold today, and stuck a note in there that said basically "Thank you, hope you enjoy the dresses, please leave me feedback because I'm new to ebay."

I'm going to leave feedback too, it seems only polite, although all I have to say is that she paid the invoice in a day, which is nice. Damn, I'm green on this "selling online" thing.

I've never bought anything from ebay, but the travelling mandolin I bought was used from Amazon and I really enjoyed the fact that the previous owner put a note in. I like the archeology of it all, that these items have a history prior to me.

Yeah! I mean, it wasn't long or personal, but it was something.

I like getting notes! Most people who make handmade items will send you notes (if you buy from etsy) as well as their business card and their friends business cards.
As a seller- I try to always send notes. I have a stash of San-x stationary and stickers that I use for that purpose :)

Yeah! I wish I'd thought of it earlier so I could grab some stationary. I know I have some somewhere.

It wasn't a handmade item, just a couple of (really nice) vintage dresses.

They sold for a bit more than I paid for them. I might make a small-time hobby out of buying dresses at Red Light and Buffalo Exchange and selling them on ebay. I love 70's-era Gunne Sax!!

I love getting notes from people on eBay :D
When I sold CDs in college, I wrote people little crayon notes with happy pictures.

(unrelated - why does my cat stink?)

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I'm probably not interested in the bike. If I do end up getting one I'll end up with a super cheapie I can ditch when we move. Thanks though!

I always leave feedback regardless if I am selling or buying. (And if I dont receive feedback, I always pester the other party after about a week of waiting)

But notes are great. Just a little way to personalize your gesture!

Yay for notes! And yay for feedback. It's fine to just say "paid quickly" or whatever; that's what feedback is for, really.

Another yay for notes! I got some yarn over ravelry not too long ago and liked the little "happy knitting! :)" note I got, I mean it doesn't have to be anything extravagant, but it is random happy inducing.

I love the phrase "happy random inducing."

I always thought notes were nice....
In my ebay experience, the best way to get feedback is to leave it (since they get a little notification telling them you left it with a link to reciprocate) - and it doesn't matter what you say, as long as you categorize it as positive so their numbers look good.

Well, sellers can only leave positive feedback, I've noticed.

I buy a lot on Ebay and also sell, and yes, little notes are nice to personalize a purchase. I also send the buyer an email once it has shipped, just so they know it's on the way. Are you using delivery confirmation when shipping? Even though it costs a little extra to purchase it, for Ebay, you want to definitely do this so you can see that the package at least got delivered to the address. It's a little peace of mind and can cover you later if the buyer might say they never got the item. I have sent items without it and not had a problem, but any experienced seller will recommend it.
I also only leave feedback either after the buyer has done so, or see that the item was delivered. Some buyers never leave feedback, which I know is frustrating when you're new. It's okay to remind them, especially since you need to get feedback built up.
One other thing-if you're selling clothing, be very clear about your return policy, whether you will or won't accept returns. I know Ebay now makes you include this in your auctions, but I've sold used clothing in the past and had someone return a dress a month after the auction looking worse than when it went out. Don't be afraid to be firm about your terms, I don't want to be negative and say all buyers are bad, but you also want to protect yourself.

I forgot to specify it in the listing, but yes, I did delivery confirmation. I then emailed the buyer to say "sent it, here's the number." Next time I'll include that in the shipping price.

I've never sent notes- unless I'm sending something to someone I know! it would just be a bother for me that I don't need, esp. when I actually sell lots of stuff!
