Hey Shift!
2009 marks the 100th anniversary of Hostelling International worldwide, 75 years of Hostelling International in the United States, and 25 years of the Hawthorne Hostel. On Saturday August 29th, we'll be having a big party to celebrate all this!
If you know your hostel history, you'll know that bicycling has played an important role in early hostel history. So to honor this, I'll be leading a fun and casual bike ride from HI-Portland, Northwest to HI-Portland Hawthorne Hostel. We'll pass up some sites of American Youth Hostels/Hostelling International's past, plus a refreshment stop or two!
We'll meet up at the Northwest Hostel (425 NW 18th Ave) at 4pm this Saturday. Estimated length of ride is 10 miles. Ride is not a loop. Riders should be comfortable riding in moderate traffic conditions.
If you can't make it to the ride, stop by the Hawthorne Hostel (3031 SE Hawthorne Blvd) from 6-10pm for the big party. Barbecue, live music, silent auction and raffle, and more. All of these events are FREE and open to the public!
yours,
Shawn
