So volunteering at Sunday Parkways was kinda awesome, even though we had to get up early. Everyone loved my dress (although they all thought it was a skirt) and the parasol. After our shift was up, Shawn and I managed to ride the whole route only once, because we stopped so many times to talk to people (which is, after all, part of the point) and because it took so long to get food. Mmmm...noodles.
I think NE Sunday Parkways probably got at least as many people as the North Portland one did. Yay!
After it was over, Halley and Shawn and I grabbed some more food (mmmm...oily garlicky bread thingies) and went to see Trek in the Park. For those of you who are unaware, Trek in the Park involves a theatre group doing an episode from the original series, live action. There was live music (including a woman singing that really high soprano from the opening credits)! They did the episode "Amok Time," which is the one where Spock goes into Pon-Farr and thinks he's killed Kirk. It was so awesome, and I'm not even a Trekkie or anything. Because it was near the Sunday Parkways and not long afterward, it was massively crowded, but we managed to find an okay spot to sit.
After that, Shawn and I went to Stephen's house. I got to meet his awesome chickens, and talk to them and pet them and watch them eat worms from the compost bin. Then we went inside and listened to lots of records...Stephen not only has a record player, but an old-fashioned receiver with glass tubes! We listened to all sorts of stuff. I made him play "Roundabout" by Yes, and danced around singing along while Shawn and Stephen chatted. It was fun.
Tuesday evening was a Pedal Potluck Picnic. We picnicked next to the section of the I-205 bike path that goes through the city of Maywood Park. No one brought hummus.
Wednesday morning, Shawn was interviewed on OPB radio about zines. It was kinda surreal to sit in my living room and hear his voice over the radio.
Yesterday I went to the bikeportland.org SE meetup. There were lots of people, most of whom I knew at least by face. Talked to a guy who owns one of the pedicab companies, and I'm going in next week to learn more about riding an Icicle Tricycle. Yup, I may end up riding around selling ice cream. We'll see.
When I got home after, my roommates told me they've decided to only ask for $200 rent for August (my rent is normally $405) and they're not in a hurry to get it. In addition, Donna found me a psych nurse practitioner who has fairly low fees...which Donna is going to pay. o_O HOLY SHIT PEOPLE.
I mean, wow. I have been so incredibly lucky in so many ways. I have no idea what I've done to deserve such awesome people in my life, but I'm very grateful.
I am also very happy to know I'll be able to get more Adderall, as I've been feeling really shitty lately about my inability to take much control of my life or get anything done. My sleep has been fucked up, I've been cranky...you get the idea.
SO! This is my weekend:
Tonight: Nickey's going-away party
Saturday during the day: Zine Symposium (pssst Shawn has a new mini-comic and I'm in it, whee!)
Saturday night: Watching Dirty Dancing in the park with
jenhowell (you are still doing this, yes?)
Sunday: The Easy Riders are doing a ride out to the Sandy River, but they plan to get back between 3 and 4pm, which is the hottest part of the day!! So I dunno. Maybe I just float around in my apartment's pool instead. Less crowded, probably. LOL
