Solstice ride was kinda awesome. I rode up to Council Crest (highest point in metro Portland, it has a couple of radio station towers), part of Washington Park, and saw the sun rise from the lawn at Pittock Mansion (btw: the harp in the window is an 1890 Lyon & Healy...OMG). There were some fucking obnoxious kids from LA who were joined in by several drunken Portlanders, but they all bailed after Council Crest. I got to see a married couple renew their vows, they were both funny and sweet.
After the sun rose, Shawn and I came back to my house and slept for a few hours.
Then: Sunday Parkways! We admittedly didn't get to ride the whole route, we got there late. But it was lovely and awesome. I did find out, though; that the Portland Century (which I really wanted to ride) is the same day as the SE Portland edition of Sunday Parkways. So I need to find another Century to ride.
(Psst!
encapsulate, I talked to a woman from OBRA, she said to email the ride people re: vegan food. She says that if enough people ask about it, they're more likely to have something substantial as opposed to just, y'know, fruit. Which is good, because having to bring your own food to a supported ride, partially defeats the damn point.)
Dead Freeways Ride: I was so tired by then, that my attention span refused to cooperate. At all. I did learn that people were murdered on those I-5 pedestrian overpasses a while ago. Not so much anymore.
After the ride we went to Hedge House, were the beer is fabulous and the vegan options are sorta scanty. Gaaah! But the conversation was awesome--talked to some people about fantasy and Neil Gaiman, talked to a guy who said he has "a mixte fetish," and a vegan guy on a really fancy new fixie paid the entire bill (keep in mind--this is ten adults who all ordered food and between us drank five pitchers of good beer) and then got all embarrassed when we thanked him.
Speaking of mixte fetishes, talked to fellow mixte riders a lot on the Solstice ride especially, several of whom had never heard of the word before they met me (that's me: the mixte evangelist!). I'm going to have a mixte-only ride later this summer, and we've joked about starting a bike gang.
After that, Shawn and I took off to Hollywood Theater, where we saw recorded Bjork concerts from Paris and Reykjavik, on the big screen. It was so fantabulous! There were some fellow audience members who really pissed me off though. If you think Bjork is freaky and want to laugh at her clothing choices or music, why the fuck did you pay $7 to be here? If you want to talk during her music, go home and listen to a damn CD. People afterward were giggling at one of the songs (one of my favorites from the Medulla album) and I started talking to another cyclist (riding a Pederson frame!) just to keep myself from getting any angrier.
Tonight's the Epic Pizza Ride! Woo!!

Thanks for lookin' out! (I'm doing this kinda vegan power fist thing right now. You can't see it, but know it's there...and it is glorious.)
Now I need to get a little more organized in getting ready. I think/feel like I could knock out a century tomorrow... But I want to be ready to do it comfortably.

The mental image of the Vegan Power Fist is indeed glorious.
