1. Is there any way to get all the music OFF my iPod and into iTunes? I don't even know where all those CDs are anymore, and it would be a tremendous pain in the ass to rip them all again anyways.

2. While using my iPod, is there a way to shuffle within a playlist?

There's a piece of software that will rebuild your iTunes library. I bought it a while back when Daks' computer died. It'll even do the playlists. Let me see if I can get you the name of the software and the registration code.

There's an app called YamiPod that'll do it.

I know the nano (2nd gen) I have can shuffle in a playlist, but I don't know if all iPods can.

The easiest requires-no-software way to get your music off is -

Go to My Computer->Tools menu->Folder Options->View and select "Show hidden files and folders"

Then go to My Computer\(ipod name)\iPod_Control\Music and copy all those folders to somewhere on your hard disk.

Then in iTunes, go to Edit menu->Preferences->Advanced and make sure that "Keep my library organized" and "Copy files to Itunes folder" are checked.

Then drag and drop all the folders you copied off the iPod into your iTunes library and it will (slowly) rebuild your library.

I use Senuti (free, downloadable and without spyware). It pulls everything off and organizes it the way your ipod should: Artist>Album>Song. Let me warn against monkeying with your invisible files. Should not cause problems.....CAN cause problems. I've learned the hard way.

I had a similar problem, so this time around I downloaded FreeRip so that all of my CD audio was in mp3 and not ripped to iTunes and forgotten.
