Well I feel DUMB
I take any laundry off the bed and floor and often even out of the room entirely, when I let the rats free-range. They've put holes in our bedding, but it's all old anyway, so I just laughed it off.
But, like a big dumb-butt, I zipped Merry into my hoodie earlier, and just didn't think about it, as she ran around between my shirt and hoodie, and climbed up and down my sleeves (she seems to prefer my right arm).
You see what's coming, yes?
I now have very visible holes in my absolute favorite shirt. As in, the holes are about a quarter-inch apiece and next to my chest.
If you know me in real life, you've probably seen the shirt--light blue, collar and buttons, long sleeves, rib knit. I love this shirt, it's cotton and rayon and very soft, and I could wear it to work and to go places without feeling like I was wearing "work clothes," and it's extremely flattering, and I bought it for a couple of bucks at Value Village a few years ago. I think it's originally from American Eagle or something.
Alas, alas, now it has rattie holes. Oh well. Chalk it up to a learning experience, I suppose.
Maybe I'll just decide that this hoodie (which had holes in the sleeves pre-rat), which is a fave of mine, and this shirt; are just my rat clothes. As in, the clothes I wear for rattie snuggling. Works for me.
I still haven't posted about the Newport trip. Here's a short version:
We woke up early because we wanted to get in as much daylight as possible. We stopped at a co-op in Corvallis for munchies, but it was a disorienting experience...People's only carries organic vegetarian items, and this place was more like a small low-budget New Seasons. I'm spoiled rotten by People's, and just Portland in general--more places carry vegan bakery items around here (even the Good Sam hospital cafeteria has vegan scones that are labeled as such). But we found munchies there.
First we walked along "Newport's Historic Bayfront," which I haven't visited in a few years. It wasn't as crowded as it was when I used to go in August, but the weather was nice, so there were people out, and most places were open. I bought a goofy cat toy at one store, it's a ball with an unbalanced motor in it, so the ball rolls around the room like it's drunk or something. I find it more entertaining than either of the cats here. It moves so fast it would probably just terrify the rats.
I love the head shop in Newport. I bought a skirt, and it wasn't that expensive, but it was still a splurge for me. It's patchwork and has a handkerchief hem, and with the colors and all that, it's kinda some hippie goth gypsy thing. I totally plan on wearing it to Noir the next time I go, with a black top and those huge boots. Hee. It's a bit long-waisted though, with a zipper on the side. My options are to yank out the zipper, shorten the waist, and sew in a shorter zipper, or my other idea (which I like much better) is to whack grommets into it and make it lace up on that side. Anyone got the proper hardware for that?
glitterninja?
5minutelimit?
I got video of the sea lions barking. I'm considering getting a youtube account.
After that we went to South Beach, and walked to the jetty and back. Then we drove to the tide pool area just North of Newport and stayed long enough to watch the sun set, which was nice, before heading home.
I grabbed some shells and rocks and driftwood. I always do. Yeesh.

You should totally go that route, though. Hammering grommets is really fun.
