Half of my friends list would wear this scarf:

However, it's a lot of knitting (it's a tube), so NO.

Well, hmmm...maybe if I made it only four characters on each side instead of eight...

*lmao*

Oooh, that's right, you'd know more about tube scarves....

Well, they are on size 9 dpn's, so it would go relatively quick.

Mine's on size 8....knitting and knitting and knitting in the round gets REALLY dull REALLY fast. Though having the patterns to mix it up *might* make up for it....

Yeah, dealing with fair isle and deciding whether to do a 1 or a 0 next, and all that.

Have you done cables yet? They're super-easy and make things interesting. I've been knitting cables in the round on dpns, and people on the max/bus seem fascinated...yesterday the max was mobbed, and there I was, knitting away like gangbusters, with my headphones on, trying to focus on memorizing music. I kept noticing that two people across from me, a man and a woman, were pointing at my work and talking to each other. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like she was explaining what I was doing, and answering his questions. It was fun to pretend not to notice.

I'm glad you learned how to do cables. This time last year you were telling me how super-complicated they looked. I still need to re-learn how to knit, myself. My friend, Mary taught me something messed up.

Also, aren't HP scarves tube scarves a lot of the time? The ones I see in the movies are often times thicker-looking than many cosplayers' scarves I have seen.

I think that scarf is neat, but would be cooler if he had Matrix symbols (about half of which are really backwards Japanese katakana characters) in it. Then it would be ultra-nerdy. And ultra HOTT. Yes, with two "t's."

The tube scarf I'm bitching about is a Gryffindor scarf that I've been sort of working on for over a year now. It's just...so...BORING!

www.knittinghelp.com has quicktime of damn near everything.

But to explain it fast--for the cables I'm doing right now, you just slip two stitches onto another needle and let it hang behind, knit two stitches, go back and knit the ones hanging out, purl one, repeat until end of row. And I only do it every sixth row when I'm in pattern for the cables.

I can show you tomorrow!

That's so fucking Airwolf!

Does it have to be a tube? Couldn't you make it flat long rectangle?

I don't know how to knit, when I watch you I don't get it :)
I'll stick with crocheting.

You could, but the back would look REALLY bad and tangly.

The numbers are made by having yarn "float" behind your work. You knit just the color you need for that stitch and let the other one hang out. So fair isle always has a side that's fugly, which is why it's mostly used for hats and sweaters and gloves, things that are round.

If you'd like, I could teach you sometime. I love teaching people to knit! There's videos on www.knittinghelp.com that show how to do just about everything, if you're curious.

I like the way knitting looks better than crocheting, so I'm more likely to wear it. It's also stretchier and uses less yarn.
