Went to Uwajimaya's. Resisted the call of Gothic & Lolita Bible, only to buy a magazine full of glossy pictures of haircuts instead. Oy.
To cut my hair short, or not? Hmmm... Cutting one's hair should not be a soul-wrenching decision. I have no idea why it is for me. I think part of the reason my hair is so long, is so that I didn't have to freak out about what style I'd get it cut.
Cutting my hair short has always made me look younger, and until recently that was a major reason not to. It's not as much of a worry anymore--people are starting to more accurately guess my age when they see me, these days. Well, they still think I'm 22 or 23, but at least I don't look underage to vote or drink, and that's fine with me.
But, I thought about it today--yes, it's glorious to have long hair, but I never ever wear it down!! When I go out, it's in pigtails (a distinctive look, admittedly, that I'll be sad to give up in some ways). When I'm at work, it's in a braid or two. Even on stage for a concert, it's pulled off my face.
If I get it short I'll have to wash it pretty much every day (I wash it about every other day currently). And keep it trimmed and stuff.
Hmmmm... *pondering*
Also bought more dye, and all sorts of foods I only get at Uwajimaya's (red bean cake, anyone?). Mmm...seaweed. And fortified, unsweetened soymilk. I don't like buying Silk brand, because they're owned by people who also own a bunch of dairy stuff. When I saw Vitasoy at the VegFest I asked them if they had an unsweetened fortified soymilk and they said no. Liars. You just have to buy it at an Asian grocery store. I need to arrange a ride and just buy a case. Yay for b12 and calcium for the lazy. And cereal-addicted. ;^p
I had a dream last night that several of my teeth fell out. In my dream, I could feel the holes in my gums with my tongue, I could even taste them. Freaky shit, man. My only guess is it's because I flossed before I went to bed, something I'm not in the habit of doing but seriously need to, as it hurt like hell. I gotta take better care of my gums, they already want to do surgery on them and I really would like to avoid it.
My afternoons/evenings go so much better when I remember to take my afternoon dose of Adderall. Speaking of which, I need to refill it.
Aaaand tomorrow I'm sending off my monthly payment to Sallie Mae, my credit card payment, and $625 to PCC; and I still have a bit of spending money for Pirate's Gathering. Life is looking up on the financial front, for sure. *happy dance*

Date: 2006-05-18 04:48 am (UTC)What amuses me is that 90% of the women in the book have lightened their hair--many of them are pretty close to my natural hair color--and I dye mine black.

Date: 2006-05-18 05:43 am (UTC)I'd probably like my hair better right now if I had any clue what to do with it. It's as long as it's ever been in my entire life, though, and it's all new.
But I really did like this haircut. Hmm.
Re: I changed icons
Date: 2006-05-18 05:53 am (UTC)It looks straighter in that picture, too... were you doing anything to it?
When it's long, I don't mess with it much. I put it back in a braid or wtf-ever and leave it alone, and it doesn't get dirty/greasy. Plus there's more hair for the oil to spread out on, and it just won't look stringy as quickly. When my hair is short I'm touching it all the time, messing with it constantly, and I think it makes my scalp produce more oil.
The shortest my hair has ever been is a chin-length bob, and I wore that off and on for years, with and without I had two inches of roots on bleached-out hair. I've been growing it out a bit at a time ever since, never getting more than an inch or two cut off, including summer of 2003 when I got the last of the blond cut off and layers around my face. Since then I've only trimmed it here and there. The last couple times I cut it myself, but the most recent time I did that, I didn't like how it turned out, so I lost my bravery on that one. *lol* If I get it cut, I'm going to Bishop's or something.
Whoa. This post and the replies are so....girly. *LOL*
Re: I changed icons
Date: 2006-05-18 06:47 am (UTC)I just went to the bathroom and played with my hair a bit, and I think I'm going to keep growing it. I need to branch out and start putting clips in it or something. When I had short hair, I whined about it all the time, too, and I really really love my curls right now.
I can NOT imagine you with blonde hair, whoa!
And cutting hair...not so scary if you go really slow. That haircut that I loved so much? James did it, with the help of a library book. I've been doing his hair for a long time now, though I'm not always the best at keeping up with it, because I guess I'm hoping that it will somehow grow past that awkward sloppy stage into nice long hair overnight. Admittedly, I would probably never cut my own hair. Though I think I'm starting to develop an anti-hairstylist thing much like my anti-doctor thing. I haven't been to either in two years, so who needs 'em!
I like the girliness! I don't get it often enough, I don't think. :)
Re: I changed icons
Date: 2006-05-18 01:17 pm (UTC)In the spring of 2000 when I decided to quit Freddy's and tree sit, I figured that was as good a time as any to have colorful hair, since I wouldn't be working retail. So I bleached it out and died it green. The green didn't stick around long, of course, but I was a really crappy blond for a while. I had meant to go turquoise, but we didn't bleach my hair white enough, so it was a mossy shade of green instead. I liked it anyway.
