Heh. Yesterday during the sectional rehearsal we were making a lot of progress with one of the songs, and I was feeling damn good about it, and really enjoying the song. So I wrote "I love singing!!" in the margin of my sheet music with really girly handwriting. And then drew little hearts around it. Welcome to one of many reasons to photocopy the sheet music. Another piece has a drawing of a harp. Last term the back of one page of music ended up covered in notes between me and an alto 2. I'm guessing Joan was working with the sopranos at the time.

Anyway. Speaking of music. I swore that I was going to practice tonight, and randomly singing a line or two from one song over and over ("arise my love, arise my fair one, come away...the winter is passed, the rains are all over and gone...") while walking through the nature park doesn't count. Plus I should practice my harp--I don't think I've touched the poor thing in weeks. It's probably feeling lonesome by now.

*whew*

You play the harp! That's uber cool :D Mmm singing is wonderful, though I'm not sure my neighbours appreciate mine :P

Dood. I sucked as a singer until I joined chorus. It's unauditioned, but Joan has really high expectations. She's very encouraging and coaching and all that. So you learn to sing in her chorus, and if you truly can't keep up you'll probably leave. But most people can. I think most people can sing reasonably well (especially if they're in a chorus) but we're taught to believe that only some people can sing, and that if you can't sing professionally you shouldn't at all, and that's bullshit.

Or as the lyric to one of our songs go (and it's a proverb from somewhere in Africa): If you can walk, you can dance. If you can talk, you can sing.

I have heard that proverb and I do agree, I'd love to get private lessons someday. My voice does have potential, though my range is shitty. My confidence is more of an issue than anything when it comes to my singing I think. And my dancing is unique and passionate ;). I think passion is more important that ANYTHING else when dancing. Or in life really...hhmmm...tangent...

I need that icon from Katamari Damacy of the prince saying, "woo, tangent."

My range used to suck, it's getting better. It also gets better during rehearsal--like, by the end of almost-three-hours, I can hit much higher/lower stuff. Right now I'd estimate my limit as between the G below the treble staff to the E on the top of it. Barely. I'm really stretching it there. *lol*

Last term we all had to sing tutti (aka all of us singing the same exact thing) on that high E. "Sied un schlungen, mih li onen." I'm spelling it semi-phonetically, it was in German, it was Ode To Joy. One of the lower altos did a parody of it for the talent show we have (much of the talent show is parodies of our current material) and she sang it as, "I'm singing, in SOPRANO!!" The best way to pull it off? Lift your hard palate in the back and imagine you're a big lady singing a Wagnerian opera. Strange, but it works.

Die san kussder, gan zan velt! Now I have the Ode to Joy stuck in my head. Dammit. *lol*

I should be looking up stuff on two random Renaissance men and how humanism influenced their work.

This take-home exam is for a history class and was due last term. Now, ALL of the exams are take home- and the teacher gives subjects that are a bitch to find!!!

Bruno, right? I'll never understand why he switched to that format. I aced his in-class essay tests, but those take-home things are a pain in the ass because they're not really related to the class lectures or even much of the reading, and they're a bitch to write!!
