So, this Sunday there's an anti-war march at Waterfront Park.
But before that, there's a community sing!
PEACE RALLY, "END THE WAR, BEGIN THE PEACE" ON THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY
OF THE INVASION OF IRAQ
GATHER AT 1:30 PM, SUNDAY, MARCH 19
WATERFRONT PARK SOUTH OF THE MORRISON BRIDGE (CLOSE TO THE STAGE)
The big community sing starts at 1:45 PM and the rally
starts at 2 PM. Groups are asked to gather at 1:30 PM.
WE SHALL OVERCOME (Zilphia Horton, F. Hamilton, G. Caraway, P. Seeger)
We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome some day
Oh, deep in my heart (I know that) I do believe, we shall overcome some day.
(1) We’ll walk hand in hand . . . (2) We shall all be free . . .
(3) We are not afraid, (4) We shall live in peace
STUDY WAR NO MORE (traditional)
I’m gonna lay down my sword and shield
Down by the riverside, down by the riverside, down by the riverside.
I’m gonna lay down my sword and shield, down by the riverside, and study war no more
Chorus : I ain’t a-gonna study war no more, I ain’t gonna study war no more
I ain’t gonna study war no more (repeat)
(1) I’m gone walk with the price of peace (2) Shake hands around the world
(3) Register my name to vote (4) Listen to all points of view
(5) Work for democratic change (6) I know that love can change the world
STRANGEST DREAM (words and music by Ed McCurdy)
Last night I had the strangest dream, I’d never dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed, to put an end to war
I dreamed I saw a mighty room, filled with women and men
And the paper they were signing said, they’d never fight again.
And when the paper was all signed and a million copies made
They all joined hands and bowed their heads and grateful pray’rs were prayed
And the people in the streets below were dancing ‘round and ‘round
And the swords and guns and uniforms were scattered on the ground
LET PEACE PREVAIL (by Mo Mack)
The earth is home for everyone, a planet jewel, warmed by the sun
Stranger and friend, reach out your hand. Lift up your voices throughout every land.
Lift up your voices and make a stand
Chorus
Let peace prevail, o’re mountains tall, through hill and dale
For one and all, ‘cross oceans wide, love shall not fail
Throughout the world, let peace prevail (repeat line)
With every breath, let our hope renew, for in each heart the beat is true
Our trust in love will tell the tale, so trust in love, let peace prevail
Trust in love, let peace prevail
Seriouly, anyone and everyone is invited, whether or not they're in a chorus. I'll probably wear an Aurora shirt anyway, though.
Tomorrow is VegFest, and I'm meeting up with a few people there. There's a coupon for a buck off the $5 entrance fee, in the Willamette Week, if anyone else wants to show up. :^)
