They've picked the girl who's going to play Luna Lovegood in the next Harry Potter movie. There's a picture of her over here. OMFG, she's perfect. Well, I think so. Admittedly I actually pictured her a tad messier-looking, but she's got that wide-eyed open look, and that's what really nails Luna in my head.

Picture from MuggleNet. And I was pointed to it by [livejournal.com profile] ruby_wings, who as always is one of my dearest friends in squee!!-dom. She points out that Luna should be wearing radish earrings. *giggle*

The woman set to play Umbridge isn't ugly enough. The one playing Tonks...it's hard to find pictures, but I like what I can see.

Gaaah. Must remember to keep my eye on MuggleNet. Gods only know I used to check theonering.net every single day.

EDIT: Cool preview for the GoF DVD over here.

LOL - I always pictured Luna looking more like *you.* Is she a blond in the books?

see - that's exactly the kind of detail I miss in books. For me to remember that, I'd need it to be repeated or an illustration. Then it might stick.

I still picture her looking like you, though. My original mental image was long, flowy, black hair. Maybe because her name reminds me of nighttime.

Luna makes me think of the moon.

I normally forget stuff like that, but whenever JKR reintroduces characters for each book, she gives us a reminder of what they look like, y'know?

She's a Ravenclaw.

Ok, I think I'm gonna be the Voice of Dissent here. She's blonde...but that's where it ends for me. I'm disappointed. :(

Want to elucidate? I'd love to hear how your mental image is different. I certainly pictured someone more messy-looking, and a tad less pretty. But the eyes just get me.

No. I agree. See my comment. She's not even a real blond, for pete's sake. And the dye job is nowhere near as convincing as the Fred and George's.

Dood, the movie's Fred and George aren't real redheads? No way.

Yah, the bleach job is a tad Malfoy-esque, on that we can agree.

Dude, I'm not happy with that Luna picture. Man. She looks like some crazy bleached blond British Lindsey Lohan. Are we sure that's not Lindsey Lohan?

Oh well. Luna is my pet character. I was bound to be disappointed.

That said, I think that they've been "prettying up" all the characters for the movies. I wish the movies would show them all as dorky and dignified and human and beautiful as they appear to my mind's eye when I'm reading the books. They don't even wear Weasley sweaters in the movies. They always wear clothes that look like they're from the mall.

Yeah. I wish Luna looked as kooky as I did back in high school when I was doing the equivalent of wearing radish earrings, by literally blanketing my body with political buttons during election season. Yeah. I was part Hermione and part Luna. But when it comes down to it, my soul is a Luna soul.

Oh well. I'll give it a chance. As long as I don't have to see anymore scenes of single sex schools doing stupid entrances into the great hall.

*lol*

Yah, I think she should be messier, but I like her eyes. I have high hopes...we still haven't seen if she can act, either.

As far as Luna goes, in my opinion, her eyes are round enough to be believably spacey if she turns out to be a good actress. One of the things that bugs me is that she doesn't look as kind-hearted as Luna appeared to my mind's eye. I identified that it may have been the fact that her eyebrows are groomed into a very sharp angle and that probably gives me that impression.

I do agree that the hair is a little fake-looking, but hopefully they chose her for her acting, not necessarily straight up looks like they seem to have done for Cho Chang. I confess that I am usually disappointed in the character choices simply because I have really high expectations of the movies. For instance, I do not particularly care for Emma Watson as Hermione. She is a very pretty girl and is most likely a sweetheart, but she doesn't fit the bushy-haired, buck-toothed image of Hermione I have in my mind.

Anyway, for all I know, she was the best choice out of the lot. If Luna can pull off space cadet really well, then I think I can get over the minor details that irked me when I first saw her.
