And now, a funny video! Steven the Vegan!

Work today: Busy. I'm in the middle, answering phones and whatnot all week.

One of the MA's in family practice seems to have a tofu phobia, it's that bad. It always pisses me off when people are like, "OMG! TOFU! YUCK!!11!!!eleven!" Saying you hate tofu is like saying you hate flour. I mean, seriously. You can do eight bazillion things with tofu that don't taste like tofu! And tofu is really more of an ingredient, as opposed to something you eat by itself. I hardly ever just eat tofu! It's almost always in something.

I felt like showing that off, so I made brownies that have a box of silken tofu as one of the ingredients. Hah. I'm bringing them to work tomorrow. I'll show her. *lol*

Need to make some sort of frosting for it. Because I love chocolate. And tomorrow is a chocolate kind of day.

I'm odd. I eat it plain scrambled like eggs only not yucky.

Date: 2006-02-14 04:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com
You don't even season it with anything?

Date: 2006-02-14 04:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] trillium-flower.livejournal.com
Not usually, but if I'm at the stage I'm eating scrambled tofu my stomach is in serious revolt. Bland is better. I also eat plain tapiocca that has been cooked in apple juice.

OMG YUCK TOFU!!!!!!!

Yeah, Really, seriously.

Its gross.

Love ya april :)

If you thought it was gross, it wasn't made right. Like, seriously.

Tofu doesn't even really taste like much on its own!

Grr. Now I'm going to end up making more brownies. *lol*

I'll take some of those brownies!

There's different textures, and many different ways of cooking it. Some are nasty, others are tasty. I do not like it fried at all period, doesn't matter what it's in. It's a texture issue.

you're right about tofu - on it's own it's basically flavorless. It tastes like whatever you cook it with. Like pasta. Who ever says, "oh, I don't like pasta!" Now I understand "I don't like Pasta Alfredo" (me) or "I don't like those deli pasta salads" but it's preposterous to say "I don't like pasta." In fact, I've never heard it.

But I hear people assert that they don't like tofu all the time!!1eleven1! It's so frustrating.

And when I bring tofu cubes for boo's lunch after school, all the kids dive in. ALL of them. "mmm! tofu, can I have some?!" Without all of the anti-tofu prejudice, the kids just adore it. It's good, it's bland, it gives the body what it craves...

Tofu is fucking brilliant.

Date: 2006-02-14 04:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sagcat.livejournal.com
oh and another thing! Tofu comes in many, many different textures as well, so people can't even use that as an excuse. It's flavorless and comes in whatever texture you desire.

And yet another thing! All of those packaged foods that have "soy" in them? WTF do you think that is? It's either tofu or tofu's kissing cousin, ffs.

Hear hear! And I stand up proudly and say I LOVE TOFU!! I am *so* sick of people who are tofuphobic :P. I didn't like it the first time I had it, it wasn't prepared properly. I always say to people - well do you like raw eggs? Of course not you cook them and season them e.t.c. You're right tofu is an ingredient and a damn fine one at that (cheesecakes, scrambles, stir-fry, 'chicken' e.t.c)

Date: 2006-02-14 04:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sagcat.livejournal.com
yeah, but I like raw tofu. =-D

I like the middle texture raw, but not the hard or silken. I love the hard stuff marinated in balsamic vinegar and bbq'd. mmmmm thats my favorite.

So do I - but I think it's generally an aquirred taste.

Meeee too, but I think it has to be the right kind. That nasty water-packed crap in the produce section of the grocery store? Ew. Give me some fresh blocks of ota tofu from the Daily Grind, and I'll be eating slices of it while I'm cooking. Mmmm.

haha I do that too - and really grossed out my omni cousin! :D *icon love*

Date: 2006-02-14 09:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sagcat.livejournal.com
oh wow - a tofu snob! You know, you can get that stuff directly from ota on stark fresh off the line! I will happily eat the stuff you turn your nose up to. =-)

As far as eating slices of it while cooking, I usually have to fens sebastian off so we have enough left for whatever we're preparing!

Date: 2006-02-14 09:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ourglasslake.livejournal.com
Stark and what? I am sooo there.

I *will* eat the water-packed kind raw, but it doesn't even come close to Ota's goodness.

their factory is on stark between 11th & 12th accross from that park where the homeless people camp. I've personally never gone and gotten some for myself, but my friend who used to live in portland and get her tofu there said she had to bring her own container to carry it home in.

If/when you do this, let me know how much it costs, k?

Eggs bleugch. Those are just icky. :)

From: [identity profile] bitter-moss.livejournal.com
Hmm and that's when the example comes unstuck. I should use the flour analogy instead...

Date: 2006-02-14 05:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] trillium-flower.livejournal.com
I was really poking fun at aeonflux, not at your analogy. I think an egg is a better analogy because you can't eat flour by itself, it has to have someting else. Tofu or an egg you could eat plain. Sagcats pasta one works too. Which I also eat plain. For a fat person I sure have food issues.

Date: 2006-02-14 06:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bitter-moss.livejournal.com
Lol - I haven't seen any Aeonflux stuff (the cartoon or movie I want too tho :)). Italian's eat pasta with just a little olive oil though don't they? I think it would be nice myself but I eat raw tofu (as I'm preparing it - not as a meal!)
*icon love*

From: [identity profile] webtar.livejournal.com
It's funny you say that because just last night I said, "I don't like pasta. I'm not even going to pretend like I do anymore."

Date: 2006-02-14 09:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sagcat.livejournal.com
see? I make a generalization and I get burned on it. Always happens. Maybe when I mature (that has to happen eventually, right?) I'll stop shooting from the hip on my rants so damn much.

Okay, NOW I've heard someone say they don't like pasta. One.

Date: 2006-02-14 11:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] webtar.livejournal.com
It's a weird thing not to like though, I do agree. I shouldn't dislike pasta.

Date: 2006-02-15 01:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sagcat.livejournal.com
apparently, I'm weird because I can't stand pineapple. Tastes like burning.

Date: 2006-02-15 01:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com
I love pasta in almost any form imaginable. I love it. That and cereal and soymilk and I'd be happy forever. *lol*

I wonder if it's the same blonde
