Date: 2005-08-03 05:45 am (UTC)Am currently reading slash. You need to get an account on restrictedsection.org, and then you need to read epicyclical's stories. There's two fantastic H/D's and one Draco/Ginny. Yes, it's completeley out of character, but who the fuck cares? The D/G story is relatively non-graphic (but very very good, especially if you remember anything from the second book), but her two h/d stories are....well. *fans self* That author has a Draco fetish anyway, under a different pen name she's written three Draco-centric novel-length stories, that damn never everyone in the fandom has at least heard of. They're not slashy except perhaps in subtext. Also, nobody has any middle feelings about them--some love them, some hate them. Personally, I liked the first but got bored with the second. They're not on this site, I think she wrote them under the name Cassie Claire. Oddly enough, she also wrote The Very Secret Diaries, which every freaking Lord of the Rings fan has read and quotes endlessly. It's so entertaining to me, because she doesn't consider herself part of the LOTR fandom, and she's the most well-known LOTR fanfic author!

Date: 2005-08-04 06:49 pm (UTC)my favorite novel-length fic is "underwater light" by maya/mistful. her draco is fantaaaastic. i've gotta read the last few chapters tho. oh oh have you read ivy blossom's stuff? "origins" and all...
do you love switchknife? her recs are fantastic, and her writings are too, but honestly, snape raping harry in angsty ways doesn't hold my attention for long, and i'm not really that into the daddy stuff the way she is... i like snape/hermione tho. (oooh sagcat will flip!)
we need to trade links. oh, man, what about the one where harry's scared to sleep alone so he and d take naps together all the time, and there's some quidditch and some humpin? ha ha, this is such a pointless description. soon i will find some links! and you need to send me some. yessss!

Date: 2005-08-04 07:02 pm (UTC)You people are fucking sick. I'm half revolted by the lot of you and half amused.
I mean, people getting off by tales of an evil, snivilly, adult death eater raping our school age heroine? If men were involved in creating and reading that shit, they'd all be thrown in jail. And no one would defend them for a second.

Date: 2005-08-04 07:15 pm (UTC)anyway, hermione is my marysue, and snape is hot as hell, so there you have it.

Date: 2005-08-04 07:27 pm (UTC)Well, if you want to twist things that far, I guess you can do whatever.
Snape is not hot - he's a prick. And WTF is a "marysue?"

Date: 2005-08-04 09:24 pm (UTC)mary sue is my favorite phenomenon of all fanfiction (aside, of course, from the HOT SEX that my favorite characters get to have): it's when an author is clearly writing a character as themselves - in hp fanfic, girls usually write hermione or ginny as themselves, and jk rowling is totally marysueing it up with both of those girls, btw. or they create an original character, and those are the VERY BEST marysues there are. usually they have "creatively" spelled names or eyes that change color or unicorn powers or some mystical allure that draco malfoy cannot resist. godawful plots, pure cheese, girly desires... mary sue are thrilling... i want to write some serious work of lit crit about the mary sue. it's a concept that i had needed a word for - like, who's your marysue of firefly? (except that question has too many goddamn answers).

As for me, I far prefer hobbitslash in that fandom. Oh Yes. Merry/Pippin, Frodo/Sam, Frodo/Merry (just because Elijah and Dominic are Teh Hot), Frodo/Sam/Rosie (halfway canon and dead sexy, but then I like it both ways anyway).

Date: 2005-08-05 05:47 am (UTC)Some of the stuff gives modern people the giggles, but Tolkien didn't write his hobbits to be flaming queers or anything.
Doesn't mean I don't like reading about it. In incredibly graphic detail. *lol*

Date: 2005-08-05 12:42 am (UTC)I look at it this way: Dangerous guys are sexy. Dangerous guys are...dangerous. In oh-so-many ways. So I get out all my lust for dangerous men via fiction. It's a good release valve for that sort of thing.
Ever read stories where Harry's a total asshole and definitely the top in the h/d thing? The epicyclical h/d stories at restrictedsection.org have top!harry. I've read others. They're damn hot. Especially when they get all kinky and shit.
Wow. Both of us are holding hands and skipping merrily down the path to hell at this point. *LOL*

Date: 2005-08-05 12:35 am (UTC)The epicyclical stories I read (except for the ones in the draco trilogy) were on restrictedsection.org.
I try not to get too involved in the fandoms of HP or LOTR. I know who I like, read stories people recc to me and whatnot. But I stay far, far out of the way of Teh Wank. I know people who spend a lot of time on Fandom Wank, and it just seems like a waste of time to me, y'know??
I forgot about Switchknife!! I used to have her on my flist. Is that her LJ name? I forget. She wrote a really kinky one with Draco and Neville, very OOC but ask me if I care. He put a glamour over them so no one could see and Draco fucked him right there in the potions classroom over Snape's desk! Fucking hot, man.
