Fall is starting to sneak up on me. A few trees are already changing and dropping leaves. The days tend to be cooler (admittedly, we've had a fairly mild summer) and the nights are downright chilly, although we're still sleeping with the windows open. It's so nice to be able to snuggle up when we go to sleep.

Part of me is like, Yay! Fall! It smells so yummy. And it's an excuse to make soup and bake things. And I miss my fancy wool coat I bought last year. I'll feel more like knitting. And wearing layers. And hey, it's the start of all my favorite holidays! I should figure out my Halloween costume...

Not to mention that September is easily the best month of the whole year, weather-wise, here in Portland. Highs in the 70's most days, it's not raining much yet.

But the rest of me is like, No! Don't let summer end yet! I'm not done! I want to eat more raspberries and strawberries, and go on picnics, and stay out late on balmy nights. I think I should do more evening bike riding while the nights are so perfect.

Plus...as much as I love all those holidays that are coming up (Shawn and I are probably going to go to Vancouver BC for my birthday!!), they come with the rain and the early nights. Right now it generally doesn't bother me much that everything is a fairly long bike ride from our apartment, but I have a feeling that I'm going to mind it a lot more when it's dark at 5pm and raining and/or windy. And once all those holidays are over, it's just cold and dark.

One thing I must note: I love how long the seasons are here. Yes, some trees are dropping leaves. But the last of the trees won't be done until November! The silk trees just bloomed, and so did some trees of fragrant flowers.

I miss having a daily commute through Ladd's Addition. During fall, biking through there was the best thing ever, as long as you were careful when biking on wet leaves (those things are really slippery). It was depressing in winter, with all the naked trees, but watching them all explode into green in the spring, seemingly overnight, was worth it!
