Jun. 16th, 2010 05:04 pmMonday: Went to a Bike/Ped Legal Clinic where Ray Thomas tried to talk me into going to law school. Then biked up to Mt. Tabor, and a bunch of us performed Eine Brise, an "avant-garde" piece for 111 bicycles. We didn't have that many, but I really don't think it matters....it was fun! Then the people who were running the event, Fear No Music, performed for us. OMG. Fantastic. A marimba (pulled up to the top of Mt. Tabor in two bike trailers!), a viola, a cello, a violin. They played three really good pieces, as the sun set behind them, and the birds sang, and the wind blew through the trees...it was so fabulous.
When it was over I managed to talk ten or so people into coming to the really awesome bar near my house, Vintage. It was fun to walk in and tell the owner, "I brought you a bunch of customers," and have him respond, "And you're my new friend!" I was hoping it would get me a free drink. Alas.
Tuesday: Made some yummy pasta stuff from Veganomicon and took it to the Pedal Potluck Picnic, which is one of the few rides yesterday not to get rained out. Talked a bunch to a couple of guys from LA. Last year forty or so people from LA showed up for Pedalpalooza (some of which were obnoxious), and apparently when they got back to LA they wouldn't stop talking about how awesome Portland is...so another forty of'em showed up this year. Only two to the ride last night though, and they were terribly underdressed for the weather! We were discussing the World Naked Bike Ride and I said, "Just to warn you, it's usually chilly at night," to which one replied, "Like, what, 70F?" I just laughed. "No. Think mid-50's."
Anyway--running out of time on the library computer. I wanted to go on a ride that's dressing in Edwardian clothes, visiting Irish pubs, and reciting stuff from Ulysses, but I'm getting up butt-early to ride to the Gorge with Shawn (and a bunch of other people) tomorrow. We're camping at Ainsworth, yay!! Tonight I'm going on a history ride led by a professor at Lewis and Clark!
