Had a dream last night (this morning?) I was in a car with a family of immigrants (no idea where they were from) and they had a big ol' snake, and when we opened the doors at our destination the snake got out and bit someone's hand. (HUGE snake, btw.) And I all freaked out (he was yelling a lot, it fucking hurt!) and tried to call 911 but the first time I did they were on strike or something, and the second time I got someone. But the dude overhears me talking to the dispatcher and gets mad 'cause he's not hurt *that* bad (snake wasn't poisonous?), it's not going to kill him, it's just going to hurt a lot, and he doesn't have health insurance, so could I please tell them not to show up? So I tell the dispatcher that the dude is being stupid and doesn't want the ambulance to come, so it probably shouldn't. She got kinda pissy with me, there were *real* emergencies to deal with y'know. After I hung up, I'm like, WHY THE FUCK does this family have a huge freaking snake that bites and it's not in a terrarium or cage or something? Damn.

I seriously thought about getting a ball python for a few years. I love snakes. I just can't handle the idea of feeding them rodents. I like rodents too much. In any case, the dream wasn't related to any kind of snake phobia or anything.

People's has that coconut milk I posted about a month or two ago. It's really thick, but it also has guar gum in it, which is a thickener. It's rich and creamy, but has an odd taste to it. Dunno if that's natural to the coconut or not. One glass has 80 calories, but fifty of them are straight-up saturated fat, about 1/4th of your whole day's worth. In general I try not to worry about saturated fats, I do eat more than probably most vegans (damn you Earth Balance margarine!!), but there's not a lot of places for it to "hide" in a vegan diet, and since I exercise and get plenty of whole grains and don't consume any cholesterol at all... Supposedly the saturated fats in coconuts are better for you somehow. Dunno if that's true.

In any case, the milk is yummy on cereal. I haven't tried it in coffee yet. HOWEVER, I think this stuff would probably make fantastic baked goods and french toast. I also want to try making "cream" sauces with it, as I got the "plain" kind.

Oh, and: Happy Beltane/May Day/International Worker's Day to everyone!!

Take a moment to remember that people fought and died for the forty-hour workweek and the right to unionize, and still do in some parts of the world.

Buy a flower for someone.

Make love to someone else or just yourself! :^)

Tonight: Beltane ritual
Then going to Shawn G's house to stay the night.

Saturday: An Easy Riders ride. Dunno what else.

Sunday: Shawn G will come with me to Sweetpea for once. Yesss.

Then I'm going to curl my hair and iron my dress in preparation for the Pretty Dress Ride. Judging by pictures from previous years, it will be a combination of women in rather pretty dresses, and dudes in...well, the dresses may be okay, but hardly, erm, flattering. (Pictures of Shawn G from previous years never cease to make me giggle.) I'm really looking forward to it, as I plan to do full-on lolita...my black petticoat (made for me a couple years ago by [livejournal.com profile] seams_unusual) with my much thinner white one over it, actually makes the right lolita silhouette. It also reminds me that, with my boobs being what they are, it makes my Bodyline dress a wee bit short on me. Oh well. Anyway: I can't decide between fairly thick but not all that pretty, white knee socks or my white socks with the black diamonds on them. I have those off-white ones with the lace on top, but in daylight they're noticeably off-white compared to the dress....damn. Also: My black turtleneck underneath, or my blouse that is also from Bodyline? The blouse is cute, but the stupid "pearl" buttons show through the damn dress. Next time I buy shit from Japan, I'm going to buy stuff a bit bigger than what I actually think I need. I have to pin the blouse if I wear it by itself because otherwise it gaps. >_<

AND OF COURSE: It's predicted to rain all weekend. Typical. So it might not matter how pretty my damn dress is, because I'll have my blue showers pass jacket on over it. C'est la vie.

The Lusty Month of May

Somewhere at my parents' house is a mix CD given to me six years ago by [livejournal.com profile] singswithtrees called "Beltaine Ballads." I've had this one pop into my head several times the last few days:

Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does its scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating ev'rywhere?
Don't you know it's that dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la! That dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la!

Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That darling month when ev'ryone throws
Self-control away.
It's time to do
A wretched thing or two,
And try to make each precious day
One you'll always rue!
It's May! It's May!
The month of "yes you may,"
The time for ev'ry frivolous whim,
Proper or "im."
It's wild! It's gay!
A blot in ev'ry way.
The birds and bees with all of their vast
Amorous past
Gaze at the human race aghast,
The lusty month of May.

Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear.
It's May! It's May!
The month of great dismay.

When all the world is brimming with fun,
Wholesome or "un."

It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

I've still never seen the musical. I just know this song!

Dang. I should've looked for that cd when I was at my parents' house last time.
