Faire in the Grove
Apr. 28th, 2007 08:18 pmIt was cloudy when I left the house this morning. I have a handfan (a nice one), a straw hat that ties under my chin, and even a goddamn parasol, but I didn't bring any of them, and now I'm pretty sure I have a mild sunburn, and DAMN it was sunny and occasionally too-warm.
I also haven't worn my purple gown in ages, and now my neck and shoulders are stiff, and I have a mild dehydration headache.
Oh, and tri-met from my house to Forest Grove on a Saturday is a two-hour trip each way. Ugh.
On the upside, though:
Alexander James, the Heir to the Heatherlands, performed twice. He looks like Heather Alexander's male twin, which I suppose he is. He's is still getting used to his new voice, but I think he sounded wonderful. Heather's fans, at least from what I saw, are supportive and warm; and as always, just glad to see their favorite musician. He did "March of Cambreadth" twice. Also "Gypsy Fire" which I'd never seen live. And the intro to that song about the devil stealing a guy's wife is still exactly the same ("Rah bah bah...that's ancient Gaelic for 'Stick it!'"). *lol*
Alexander just looks so happy (if a little more shy). It's hard not to smile!
Also saw
rockharp and his wife, I think, twice. She has a lovely voice and the harp playing was great. And they helped open up Alexander's second set by singing that old tune that Alexander wrote about ElfQuest. Whee! Geeks!
Oh, and I got to do dancing twice, including Saracen and Trenchmoore, just as I hoped. There's a part of me that always feels weird doing Saracen, as much as I like the dance, because it originally existed to parody a European's idea of people in the Middle East. But Trenchmoore! We had ...six? couples, and one was a couple of ten year old girls in cheap "medieval" Halloween costumes, and the other was a mother-daughter pair in jeans and tshirts. The daughter can't have been older than five or six. So it was really fun and funny.
The Pavane is so boring. ARGH. It's just..."step, two, three, stop. Step, two, three, stop. Okay, now we'll turn left, now we'll turn right, whee we're going backwards." And it's all sooo sloooow.
Anyway. I'm really tired and hungry as all hell.
One last note: It's fun to sit on the max/bus with an iPod tucked into my bodice next to my bus pass.
