Excuse me while I geek out
Mar. 31st, 2007 09:51 pmI *heart* Joanna Newsom. I was telling
alicia_stardust a bit about her.
Anyway. Lyric!spam:
I won't quote all of Sawdust and Diamonds. It's a long song--the album Ys only has five songs, and they vary between seven and, like, twelve minutes. So, just some of it:
from the top of the flight
of the wide, white stairs
through the rest of my life
do you wait for me there?
...
I wanted to say: why the long face?
sparrow, perch and play songs of long face
burro, buck and bray songs of long face!
sing: I will swallow your sadness and eat your cold clay
just to lift your long face
and though it may be madness, I will take to the grave
your precious longface
and though our bones they may break, and our souls separate
- why the long face?
and though our bodies recoil from the grip of the soil
- why the long face?
....
though my wrists and my waist seemed so easy to break
still, my dear, I would have walked you to the very edge of the water
and they will recognise all the lines of your face
in the face of the daughter of the daughter of my daughter
And then, from the song Emily:
we could stand for a century
starin'
with our heads cocked
in the broad daylight at this thing
joy
landlocked
in bodies that don't keep
dumbstruck with the sweetness of being
till we don't be
told; take this
eat this
From Milky Moon.
Had a fantastic time at the Fez last night. Including randomly meeting a very...random person, who also has rats from the Humane Society, two boys. So we're comparing cell phone shots and giggling and she decided I was the best rat mommy ever. *lol* It wouldn't have bugged me, but it was my last night out at the Fez with
axiom and
alicia_stardust. Oh well.
After those two left, though; they played the Rolling Stones version of "Paint It, Black." My inner 18-year-old who had a huge sixties obsession was the happiest person in the room. I think I bonked into other people dancing like a maniac. That is so the original goth song, anyway. "I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes, I have to turn my head until my darkness goes..."
The rats love the new cage. They also love the hammock tubes we put into it, and the ugly hat I knit. They run and run through the whole thing, except Sam, who seems content to get everywhere by climbing the walls. Earlier today, they were so exhausted from running around all night that all four slept for several solid hours while we were noisy around them.
