How did I know I would get this one? Eh? *lol*
Things I learned at Spring Mysteries Festival:
1. Kykeon is actually kinda tasty. (It's a drink made from barley and mint.)
2. If you say all day the first day, "Hey it's windy, but at least it's not raining," and spend the second day saying, "Hey, it's raining, but at least it's not windy," than of course on the third day, it will do both. And then, once all the outside stuff is over, and everyone's inside their dorms and hanging up their sopping cloaks and trying to find dry clothing and warm up, the sun will come out. And lo, there will be a mighty chorus of obscene language from all the dorms.
3. Always make sure that you put your pajamas, earplugs, and a water bottle somewhere where you can find them in the dark.
4. Be more careful to bring a cell phone or a watch or mini alarm clock or something or you will be constantly paranoid of being late for something and annoying everyone by asking for the time.
5. NIN's With Teeth album kicks ass. Heh.
6. Knit a $&*%in' guage swatch, or I will work hard to finish a cabled hat only to find that it doesn't even come down to my ears. D'oh.
7. Everyone loves to watch someone do handspinning.
8. If you plan on getting laid, it might be a good idea to socialize with people outside of your coven, or you'll get to Saturday night and realize you don't have any good targets, so to speak. Oops.
9. When sea priestessing, just leave all your clothes in your dorm. You won't want to go back and fetch them. Especially when the Apollo Theatre has become the Apollo shrine, and you end up totally cringing because you've just asked someone in aspect to help you find the light switch in the dressing room.
10. Speaking of clothes, keep the wet/dirty ones segregated from the clean/dry ones, or they will all be a tad damp.
11. If you want to be able to hear/see everything, always show up early, even if you have to wait outside. When it's really cold and/or wet and/or windy, decide which is more important--hearing/seeing everything, or being warm and dry a little longer.
12. Bring dance/party clothes that can go over or under other layers--a sarong, a fringed belt, a nice bra top.
13. I want to raise my future hypothetical kids pagan, if I can. I mean, the kids there weren't angels or anything, but they were a fun addition to everything. And the teenagers, especially, got to hang out together while still being almost constantly under light adult supervision. They also got to participate in all the ritual stuff. None of them seemed truly unhappy to be there. A few of them performed in the talent show, as well.
I'm proud of how well I took care of myself. In previous years, at that kind of thing, I'd just push myself and push myself for fear of missing out on anything, and just end up miserable and cranky. If I got tired, I lay down for a bit. If I was hungry, I tried to find food (usually). I tried to stay hydrated (that needed more attention, admittedly). Go me!
