Top Ten Reasons to Procastinate: 1.
Apr. 13th, 2006 06:59 am1. Due to one computer being down and another being in someone's bedroom, and two people playing WoW while my dad watched movies on his laptop, when I got home last night there weren't any computers for me to use. Oh, the agony!! So I went upstairs and dug through all the stuff on my floor and played the harp a little and hand-washed a couple bras. Then I just went to bed.
2. I'm only handwashing bras from now on. They weren't getting clean in that stupid lingerie bag with my normal laundry. They get much cleaner in the dang sink.
3. Some of you may have seen an anime...it was called Fooly Cooly when it showed on Cartoon Network (on Adult Swim), when I saw a subtitled version years ago it was called Furi Kuri (yay for odd Japanese phonetics). In any case, it's very very strange, and it's the only anime I prefer to watch dubbed instead of subtitled, because the subtitles go by so fast sometimes that you can't keep up. Not that watching the dubbed version helped any--it's still the most confusing anime on Earth: a girl on a Vespa with a bass guitar used as a weapon, robots with TVs for faces, a boy with a robot trying to come out of his head, a town with a factory in the shape of a clothing iron on the edge of town...holy moly.
In any case, while in Powell's last night (I'm bad, I know, oh well) I spotted it in Manga form...titled, simply, FLCL. And you know what? It doesn't make much more sense in manga form. Gaaah. It's not even as visually interesting.
4. Also bought Stardust. Wanted something to read. Haven't gotten far yet but I know I'll like it. I have to thank my friends (especially
alicia_stardust, and
dragon_mintz for loaning me Good Omens) for introducing me to Neil Gaiman's stuff. I tend to tell people that fantasy is my favorite genre, but I'm insanely picky about my fantasy. There's a lot of bad fantasy out there. Neil Gaiman kicks ass.
5. Untangling fuzzy yarn--really irritating. Ages ago I promised
ninja_pidgeon a kitty-ear hat. I thought I'd get creative, and bought a fuzzy black yarn that's really soft. But the guage (stitches per inch) is nowhere near that of the original pattern. Plus it's so fuzzy I can't tell what stitches I've done--I seriously can't tell the difference between a knit and a purl stitch to save my life...so I figure hey, I'll just knit in plain knit, rolled hems are okay on hats, yeah? But without a pattern I'm not sure how to do the narrowing on the top of the head. Nor would I be able to figure out how to pick up stitches to make the ears, because of not being able to differentiate the stitches. Dammit! I pulled it out and untangled the yarn and rolled it back up. Now I have, like, three balls of furry yarn, and have to start from scratch with the hat. I need to get my butt to a yarn store and get something closer to the original pattern and just stick to that. Maybe I'll make a scarf or something out of the black stuff--it sure is soft.
I found a hat I'd been knitting for myself with cables, but I can't find the book with the pattern in it--I was getting to the top part too, and don't know where to put all the k2tog's. I also found a scarf in the same yarn, but I can't find my yarn needles to sew in the ends, because that scarf is done. It's really neato, too, in basketweave. The yarn is one of Noro's, in that exact color pattern. I love the colors in their variegated yarns, holy crap. But they all tend to be itchy. Japanese people knit a lot, did you know that? And their patterns are visual grids instead of "k 4, p 5, k2tog" kinda stuff like in most American and European books.
Cables are like a lot of things in knitting--they look a hell of a lot harder than they are. The only tricky part is counting rows. I suck at that. I need to buy a row counter and get it over with, I'm telling you.
6. I broke a necklace in my room. Booo. It wasn't handmade or a keepsake or anything, but it's still sad, I bought it at Pirate's Gathering last year.
7. Speaking of Pirate's Gathering. I need to figure out who's going etc. We need to start arranging things soon--we'll have to have our own camp kitchen, although I think I can borrow some of that stuff from my dad, if he didn't get rid of it. I'm thinking of heading up there Thursday evening or Friday morning. It would be fun to help out at the gate.
rikell42 has decided he's going, which at least makes my food a little easier.
8. Since all my knitting is messed up, I may bring my handspinning to Spring Mysteries so I have something to do with my hands here and there. Damn me and my fidgetiness. Yay for drop spindles.
9. Freddy's gave me my normal generic of Adderall. I seriously think it works better than the one I got the last time at Costco. Maybe I'm imagining things. Maybe not.
10. Speaking of Spring Mysteries--I need to get ready, packing and all that. I'll be gone from today until some time Sunday. I'm sure you'll all manage without me somehow. :^)
