Actually we have incredibly cheap good food here-- travelers in most major cities consider $25 per person frugal for anything above fast food. In LA, that's cheap, even in a Deli. That is the reason your visiting older relatives may gravitate toward Denneys, and Carl's has a whole promotions about a six dollar burger, and Olive garden and other chains advertise meal "bargains" for $14. To average Joe outside Portland, Olive Garden is Posh! We have fabulous gourmet food, made with fresh local ingredients, the owner is in the kitchen and comes out to ask you how everything is, and they will do do something special without batting an eye, at the same price as chains, and that is amazing. You'd have to pay $60 for that in New Yawk.
