The chart problem really isn't insurmountable--libraries survived without computers for hundreds of years. And the fact that you had barcodes means that someone tried. But it would take someone who understood the problem and could formulate a plan, with the balls to enforce the rules. It would take TAda da TA! The LIBRARIAN! (That was supposed to be superhero music.) Anyway, you didn't want to be there and felt trapped. You were chafing at the bit, against the rules about earphones and other things.
