Yup, I had to be invited. Tyson gave me the code, which is amusing because he never posted then and he doesn't post now. His journal is at wyrmul but he uses it so rarely, that I just use his real name when I talk about him.

I gave a code to his girlfriend singswithtrees, and she posts here and there.

But I remember back in the day, reading the LOTR "Very Secret Diaries" at cassieclaire and wondering how the hell people got accounts, and seeing annoying people asking for codes in the comments. *lol* But I knew I wanted to post about the guy I was dating at the time, and I knew he'd figure out where my journal was, and he would get angry that I was talking about him.

Ah, if only I'd known about friends-locked posts...hell, I had an LJ for a while before I learned about those.
