Okay, can someone explain to me why Fred Meyer would want to charge $62 for my Adderall, but then had me call Costco to price match, and then charged me just over $14??

What. The fuck.

In other news, my throat hurts. I'm praying it's an allergy thing instead of my coming down with something. Especially since I've been mucho tired the last few days. Oy.

EDIT: Just so you guys know: Costco, as a general rule, is the cheapest place to get drugs, and you do not have to be a member. Just tell the people at the door that you're going to the pharmacy.

It's apparently a well-hidden secret. Costco isn't supposed to know, either, which means they took my word for it that Costco's price was $14. I mean, I was right there when I called them, but they didn't talk to the Costco people or anything.

Allergies sometimes make my throat hurt.

I'd be more likely to belive my tiredness was an adderall problem, if it weren't for the fact that I was exhuasted today, and I took Concerta--and more than what I used to take.

Costco is probably the cheapest place on earth to get medications, and you do NOT have to be a member. Just tell the people at the door you're going to the pharmacy.

sweet, good to know. I have been going to Walgreens's and even after my insurance pays 90% of the cost I still pay $67 for a 30 dayt supply. I'm tired of wasting my money on meds.

Missy, keep track of all those receipts. If the total is .25% of your income you can deduct them at tax time. Since you had a period of non income it might come in handy. And its a line item deduction too so you get the full dollar value. If you've lost some for the first 3 months of the year walgreens will print you a list that shows how much you've paid.

I have to be picky about where I buy my meds--I don't have prescription insurance. Otherwise I wouldn't be taking generic short-acting adderall, I'd be taking the all-day stuff, I like it so much better. But it's $120 or more.

Medication is a commodity like oil or corn futures, not a product like a toaster. The price on some medications fluxuates daily. The flu vaccine is a really good example of one where price is all over the board depending on things like international demand (for a specific regional outbreak), and domestic demand at the beginning of winter, and even output changes at manufacturing facilities. In oregon distributors are limited somewhat on profit margin which is the reason fred meyer has to price match on anything in their current stock. There's also something about fred meyer being incorporated in california since they sold the company, argh I'm too tired to remember all of it.

Dad trades in pharmaceuticals and has tried to explain it to me on a couple of times.

New Hampshire. They are incorporated in New Hampshire. Which is great for corporate tax shelters, not so great for profit margins on prescriptions. (Depending on whether you are the company or the consumer.)

I remember thinking it was something like that. Heh, I'm trying to imagine people on a stock exchange buying and selling amphetamines. Not that I think it happens that way, but the mental image is funny.

I actually don't know. I've only seen that substitute used in matzoh balls and it wasn't very good. There are lots of different egg substitutes, though...
