The Song Bird
SONGBIRD - Your daemon may be a song bird if you
are a true free spirit. You don't do any harm
to anyone, but go along your merry way. You
work hard and you play hard. You may be very
talented and you use your talent to add
happiness to the world. You may be a hopeless
romantic, and probably put your family and
significant other before anyone else. You might
be a little vain at times, but no one can ever
fault your for it.

List five albums that somehow changed your life, and helped shape you in some way. Include why, if you can put it into words. List your favorite songs from the albums if you want.

1. The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. I grabbed it from the Virginia Beach public library the same day I grabbed The Spiral Dance, in tenth grade. So it was the soundtrack to my life turning on its head. Oooh, still my favorite music, ever, of any genre. I don't remember which symphony had performed it on that CD.

2. Kid A by Radiohead. Got me started on my goddamn Radiohead obsession. I can still just get lost in it. "Optimistic" and "In Limbo" and "How to Dissapear Completely" are faves from that one. Hell, I like the whole damn album.

3. Downward Spiral by NIN. First music I ever found that worked when I was in a not-happy mood. I was depressed for a good portion of my junior year, and this album helped a lot in learning to explore that. That didn't sound right. Meh. Depression, for me, has a texture, almost. Music is very good at helping me notice this. Also, "Closer" is just one of the damn sexiest songs on Earth: "I drink the honey inside your hive, you are the reason I stay alive" kept getting stuck in my head when one day I woke up and realized I wanted girls, too.

4. Sgt Pepper by The Beatles. Oh lord. The beginning of a complete obsession, and my first fandom. Led to a lot of other forays into 60's music. I still love a lot of that stuff. "Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane is one of my fave songs, ever. As is "Ball and Chain" by Janis Joplin. And half of Sgt Pepper. Especially "For the Benefit of Mr. Kite" and "Lovely Rita."

5. Ancient Realms by Jennifer Pratt-Walter, along with her other stuff. She's a local Celtic harp player that I know through Sisterspirit. I listened to it so many times...especially while reading The Mists of Avalon. It's what inspired me to want to play the harp so damn bad.

Honorable Mentions:

Metamorphasis by Trillian Green
Every Other Radiohead or Beatles album
Beltaine Ballads, a mix cd from [livejournal.com profile] singswithtrees
the Earth Chants performance of the Aurora Chorus
Post by Bjork

I'm sure there are more I can't remember at the moment...
