aprilstarchild: (me and my camera)

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] dragon_mintz and I went to my company's picnic at the zoo. What frustrates me is they had a place to check off for a vegetarian meal, but apparently they didn't bother to make enough of them--there were Gardenburgers, but they were gone long before we got there, and we didn't get there that late! Oh well, they aren't vegan anyway. I ate exactly what I thought I'd be eating--potato chips, lemonade, and a popsicle.

She'd never been to the Oregon zoo before, but it was only open until four so we had to pick and choose where we went. We spent some time looking at owls, and penguins (stinky!!). They have the butterfly exhibit open for a little while longer, and we went in there and ooh'ed and aah'ed. We visited the Lorikeets and I bought some apple juice, and ended up at one point with four or five birds on me, including one just hanging out on my right shoulder. Of course, I have all these birds on me, and [livejournal.com profile] dragon_mintz gets pooped on. Poor thing.

Got some nifty jewelry at the gift shop and then left.

We tried to dye my hair with Lush's henna stuff. Talk about a stinky mess! Smelled like some combo of Tiger Balm (the clove oil) and marijuana and burnt coffee. Was really gloopy and a great deal like mud. We put newspapers everywhere and towels and there was still dye where it didn't belong. And then, rinsing it out was like trying to wash a pound of mud out of my hair, and it was greasy. There was stuff all over the tub, and it took sudsing my hair a good three times to get it all out. By the time I was done I'd drained the hot water heater.

My hair is a little darker, and very soft and shiny, but unfortunately not actually black. Grr. Now we know a little more of what to do next time, though.

Went to an astrology party. We all printed out our birth charts and consulted various books and picked random interpretive stuff to write down. Then the hostess (Michelle) read them off one by one while we tried to guess who was who. I tried to write down a combo of fairly obvious and totally wrong, and people still guessed mine. Grr.

Before actually reading them off we did the game where everyone goes around and tells two truths and a lie about myself. Thankfully I was near the end and had time to think of a few good ones.

So, I wasn't able to find a cheap enough wig, but my mom has a good curling iron. So I'll have to curl my hair for that hobbit effect. I don't know how I'm going to get the ears on though, hopefully my mom will get back before I have to leave.

I realize while walking from the max that this is going to get interesting. I don't have a ride to the Schnitzer, so there I'll be, with furry feet and pointy ears and curled hair and the whole getup, walking to and riding the max downtown. *cringe*

Yes, I'm bringing my camera. Partially to take pictures of my outfit and [livejournal.com profile] medievallass's, and partially to take pictures of all the other geeks that show up.
