I have managed to ring in the last two years, while naked except for socks. Shawn and I are going to the coast for a couple days, which means we'll miss a party at [livejournal.com profile] _fool's house, but I doubt it'll be the last party held there, seeing as I've been to one or two parties there already and he hasn't been in that house long! Hah, I count the bike move as a party. There was naked people on the trampoline and lots of beer and wine, it counts.

In any case, I may or may not ring in this one naked too. If we decide to be on the beach itself at midnight, I'll be wearing plenty of clothes. It's predicted to be in the mid-40's, raining, and really really windy. Whee! Yay for yurts, although we have two different yurts, which means moving all our stuff partway through the day.

I have a big stack of books and can't decide which to bring along. The big hardback about the Australian woman who biked across Africa? The probably amusing but badly written historical paperback novel? The thick book of collected essays and stories about Portland? It gets dark early still, so I'll probably have plenty of reading time. I paid off my library fines a few days ago (they were from 2007 and include a CD I've lost--go ahead and give me evil looks, I deserve them), so between that and going through Lauren's discards, I'm rich in reading material. Including Lauren's old paperback of Anne Rice's The Witching Hour, which I last read my junior year of high school...I'm worried that if I bring that one, all I'll want to do on the trip is read it! I never got into the Vampire series (didn't really try) but I've read the whole Mayfair series, all three books of it. The Witching Hour is probably the longest of the series and definitely the most epic, it jumps back and forth over at least a thousand years' worth of time, with lots of stops in between.

Heh. Having read that series as a high-schooler is what makes me laugh when people think Harry Potter is too dark for the kiddies. If adolescents can read Anne Rice and still be well-adjusted, than I'm sure younger teens and tweens can handle Harry Potter.

Last but not least: For the love of all that is holy, I hope I sleep tonight. I did not get enough sleep last night due to a stint of insomnia brought on by really low blood sugar that made my heart pound and race. I had to eat a bunch of saltines and drink some water and then I could finally sleep an hour or two after that. I've made sure to eat enough tonight (I hope), although the heartburn that comes and goes is really goddamn irritating.
