Catch-up post
Oct. 4th, 2009 07:53 pmI've discovered the real reason people go to First Thursday: to hang out with friends and drink free alcohol. Seriously, all but one gallery we went to had beer or wine, and often pretty tasty stuff at that. I was pleasantly buzzed all night.
But the first place I went, ArtCrank, only had PBR unless you bought something fancier. So I had two free beers. And bought a poster by Tiago DeJerk that has a silhouette of some people on bikes and says "LOVE AND BE RIDICULOUS". He saw me holding it while chatting with people and promptly offered to sign it. Jonathan Maus startled me when I was looking at some Keen shoes in the window (they must have been a sponsor) to check if they were leather, and I look up to see his damn camera pointed at me from outside. Geez.
Headed down with Girl Shawn and Rev. Phil and Tiago to a place near 5th and Everett, ran into a bunch of other people we knew. Looked at various art. Sat on the rack of my own bicycle while Mykle pedaled it (he didn't have his bike, and I couldn't carry him on my rack, and I know because we tried), muttering the whole way "This is such a bad idea..." Saw a performance piece of people dressed as angels and demons, shooting paintball at each other while trying to grab cans of PBR (quote of the night aimed at me: "Your reaction is almost as much fun as watching them!"). While looking at photo portraits of the small Jewish community in Helsinki, blurted out, "Hey, that girl got that pillow at IKEA! I have the matching lampshade!" Met a former member of the Velo Vixens (a bike dance troup from Victoria B.C.) and when I saw her, said "Oh wow, I've only seen you on a DVD!"
Ended up running off with Dustin (me riding the Miyata, him on a mini-bike) to a party in a huge loft over a parking garage near Whole Foods, full of music and all kinds of art. Consumed the only drink I paid for all night. Dutch supposedly told Dustin about the party, we never ran into him but we saw Tiago again and a few zoobombers I didn't know. Went home around midnight!
The weekend on Mt. Hood was fun. The cabin (ugh, "kabin") was nice inside and there was a hot tub, but the other "kabins" were too close to us. Played a game of Outburst Junior! that was made in 1989. Slept in a tiny room I had all to myself. Finished a sock and realized I should have knit it another inch or so higher....hmm. Do I undo the bind-off and that last inch (of ribbing) and knit it higher or say "aw, fuck it"? Either way, I need to sew some elastic into the top cuff, or there's no blipping way this sock is going to stay up.
Did my official thing this morning for leaving EarthenGrove. People said nice things and I cried. I'm still invited to Yule and stuff, which is awesome.
