I'm
totally copying this from
jenhowell. She won't mind. I think...
Sometimes I wonder if the things I do/say make a difference. If you tell me some way in which I've made a difference for you, I will tell you some way in which you have made a difference for me. How about it?
In other news: VNV Nation fell through (they sold out, booo) and
dragon_mintz hasn't called me back yet for news on whether she wants to go out tonight in some other way.
So I'm planning to go to Ratatouille, the new movie by Pixar. It's getting
excellent reviews, and c'mon! It has a rat as the main character! Of
course I'm going to go see it! I called Katrina (another fan of rodents) but haven't gotten a call back yet. Cliff (the roommate I hardly ever mention) and I, so far, are planning to go to the theatre at Holgate and 82nd for the 10pm show, because we figure there will be less screaming kids at a later show. If you'd like to join us, please give me a ring: 503 547 7893. We might try to grab food and/or beer somewhere first, but I'll have my phone.
I've been putting all my groceries and damn near every cent I spend on my Visa, so that I had enough in my checking account to pay for my first month's rent and my deposit. I hadn't checked my Visa balance and was scared...I thought it might be like $500 or something because I wasn't keeping track. Nope, it was $350. I paid $150 of it and then went and blew half that much at American Apparel. I have a skirt that's just like
jenhowell's black skirt, and a blue top, and a purple headband, and a super-comfy bra that I can wear to bellydance classes.
I've written out my expenses etc. including my new rent. I keep forgetting that I'm bringing home more money now than I ever have in my life (which is kinda sad, because I only make $11 an hour). I just never felt it, because so much of it was going to Jarrod. The new plan is to give him $300 a month and put $100 in savings, and I'll still have him paid off by the end of the summer. I'll have to rework my budget when I start school, though. Because duh, school is expensive--$1,169 a term for 9 credits--and I'll be working less. (Let's all cross our fingers for financial aid, yeah?) However, right now, even after putting money in savings and paying off Jarrod, I have something like $450 a month for food and incidentals. That's after rent, utilities, my Sallie Mae payments, my prescription copays, and even my freaking bellydance classes!
So, yeah. I have a little bit of spending money. I don't need to beat myself up for buying a few things. I just can't go overboard or anything.
I really hope I get financial aid. I wanna spend a week or two in Iceland. My goal is a year from September. I'm sorely tempted to just buy a plane ticket now on my Visa (all $1000 of it!), because it will force me to save up for the trip. The interest I pay on the Visa bill might be worth forcing me to save up for that damn trip. I'm sick of just talking about it, I want to fucking
go. Does anyone else have an urge to visit Iceland? Jarrod's out of the question now, and I'm determined to go. I'm not sure what exactly I want to do there yet, it would take a month to bike the ring road and I'm not doing that alone. In a week I could explore Reykjavik and all the cool stuff within a few hours' busing (the Geysir park, Gullfoss, Thingvellir; aka The Golden Circle; plus the Blue Lagoon) but that's it. In two weeks I could probably bus the perimeter (get a one-way off'n'on bus ticket for the ring road) but I don't know if there's enough to see outside of Reykjavik etc. to make it worth it, without spending a lot more money. I don't plan on taking a horseback ride, or climbing a glacier, or taking a boat over the Arctic Circle. Walking and picture-taking are more my kind of thing. Cheaper, too. And there's always the issue of having pretty much no vegan food outside of Reykjavik, you can't get around the fact that the most common foods are fish, mutton, and various dairy foods (for instance skyr, which resembles yogurt). I suppose I could live on rye bread for a while. *lol*
