jenhowell's most recent post (and the comments), reading the poetry
bitter_moss has posted, reading
alicia_stardust's posts about doing Last Things before leaving, have all put me in a dreamy but melancholy mood.
Totally not the best way to start a Monday. Although I remembered earlier that as of this week I work from 8:30 to 5:30, so I have some extra time online this morning.
Jarrod works four days a week for ten hours a day, for the next four or five months, and he has to leave the house at 5:30am or so, because he's working on a bunch of condos near Mt. Hood.
On a totally different subject: I know from reading that female rats go into heat every four days or so, but I'd never noticed them showing signs of it--and they certainly have been going into heat by now, rats are capable of reproducing at five weeks!
Last night they're running around and Jarrod says, "Every time I pet Frodo she shakes." I pet her and notice that no, just her ears are shaking... Hey! She's in heat!
It's the freakiest thing--one way female rats put out the signal, is they wiggle their ears. But it's not so much wiggling, as vibrating. They move their ears incredibly fast. If I had my head near her, I could hear it! She's also making little grunty noises.
Poor thing. A spayed cat doesn't know what she's missing, but my girls are gonna be hot for it every few days for the rest of their lives. I know rats aren't considered one of the species that has sex for fun, but still.
