I should make a drop spindle icon
Feb. 25th, 2007 09:54 amI wanna spinning wheel. Yup. Don't get me wrong, my drop spindle is fun and all, but man. I tried a wheel at Hecate's Sickle, and they're so much faster and easier. Le sigh.
Drop spindles, though, have the advantage of being Very Old Technology. And I'm geeky enough to get some satisfaction from that. To get even geekier, I really want to try spinning flax into linen. Cotton was prohibitively expensive until just a few hundred years ago, so everyone's clothes were made of linen or wool (or silk if we're talking very very wealthy). "Linsey-woolsey" was an inexpensive fabric made from having linen as the fiber going one way in a weave, and wool going the other way.
iPod + knitting or spinning = happy April
I don't need to buy yarn anytime soon, that's for sure. I have white-ish merino and alpaca roving, a big chunk of brown merino roving, a sweater to take apart,
5minutelimit has some older roving...
I need to go get the Sunday paper, for the employment section and to look for houses for rent. But also, comics! Yes!
