I rode my bike from my house to the max station, and then from a max station to work, and did the same on the way home. It was my first time riding around Portland alone, and it was dark in the morning. I feel so awesome about it.

I only had a couple of rough patches--for instance, once you're off the Hawthorne bridge, after a couple of blocks the bike lane ends without warning, and there's still a right car lane that can go straight, on my right. Oops...I'm thankful for considerate and aware drivers at the moment. I certainly learned a few things about the route today, that I can use tomorrow.

The view from the Hawthorne bridge just before 6:30am is gorgeous. I'm taking my camera tomorrow, there's not a lot of bike traffic then, and I can stop and take a couple of pictures. In the afternoon, it seems like there's at least as many bikes on that bridge as there are cars! And I'm such a slowpoke right now...I get passed a lot. I thinks it's so funny for me to be just kinda going along in my relaxed way, and have people on road bikes zoom past me.

I think it's actually easier to walk my bike up the stairs on the older max trains that have them, then to get my bike on and off the hooks on the newer ones. Plus, on the old ones, I can sit right with my bike. I got so paranoid when my bike was hanging up on a newer train, that I kept turning around to check it, and eventually just stood next to it.

Yay! I *heart* my bike.
