aprilstarchild: (Rocks Fall! Everyone Dies!)
Woo I'm wearing my contacts. Which means my reading ability (of a computer screen, especially) isn't all that hot at the moment. Le sigh, the things I do for looks. *lol* But I'm going to the Vampire Masquerade Saturday night, and vampires don't wear glasses. So I hear I sit, all squinty, trying to get used to them again so I can wear them Saturday. For a few hours, at least--I'll eventually probably take them out anyway. Grrr. It's enough to tempt me to look into laser surgery, I'll tell you what.

As far as that goes, I've had people tell me to go to Casey Eye Institute (they're connected to OHSU and have a great reputation) but they don't offer financing, and I'm always hearing ads for places that do. Dammit.

I tried to reinstate my checking account today and was turned down. I'm hoping that once PCC tells the credit people that I'm paid off (should take about a month or so, if they're on the ball about it), I can try again. But I was reported for "account abuse" last summer, and apparently that sticks around for three to five years. *pissy* Money orders cost money and are a pain in the butt.

In happier news--last night [livejournal.com profile] rikell42 and I hung out. We went to Powell's, where I got a huge map of Iceland to hang on my wall, and Lolita, and another Gaiman book (The Wolves in the Walls). Then after a stop at People's we went back to his place and made yummy food and ate it all up...and then polished off another pint of Coconut Bliss.

Speaking of which, I asked the dietician at work about it--coconut milk has the most saturated fat of any plant-based food. Oops. Note to self: I do not need to eat a half a pint of that stuff every time I see J. *lol* But, damn, that stuff is good. We had Maple Walnut flavor last night.

I can't find my ticket to Vampire Masquerade. I'm wondering if I tried to put it somewhere "safe" and just forgot where that spot was. My room is so messy it's not worth it to try to poke around and find it. I may end up just paying for another one at the door.

I called [livejournal.com profile] ruby_wings about the dress, I hope she calls back tonight. *crosses fingers*

Lolita is interesting. I'm about a quarter into it. I can see why people think it's a great book--he's got a neato prose style. But I can't get over how icky it is. Eeeewww.

Waaah I'm cranky today. Hmph.

Hee hee hee....[livejournal.com profile] webtar has a picture of "Horns Across the Hawthorne" where everyone did the devil horns with their hands at 6:06, 6/6/06.
aprilstarchild: (all your fault)
Reading Lolita has, predictably enough, put me in the mood for Police:

Loose talk the classroom
to hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use--he sees her
he starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
that book by Nabakov

*LOL*

Don't mind me, this is for my own reference:

Lumpia recipe.

One of my coworkers lived in Hawaii most of her life, and has Philipino parents. Friday's her last day and we're having a potluck, I thought it would be fun to make lumpia, especially since I have a deep fryer!

Mmm...lumpia. In Virginia our neighborhood was really diverse, and I got to eat these at friends' houses occasionally. They're good. The wrapper is thinner than with egg rolls, I hope I can find the right kind.

I may just substitute the meat with tofu...or if I find a really awesome-looking fake meat at New Seasons tomorrow I'll grab that. Woohoo!

Also, got a call back from [livejournal.com profile] ruby_wings and will probably be grabbing the dress tomorrow.

*happy dance*
