aprilstarchild: (knitting!)
This entry by [livejournal.com profile] emmagrant01 just cracked me up.

We had a surprise party for [livejournal.com profile] 5minutelimit last night. Out of, what, twelve? people, we managed to keep it completely quiet. Heh. Go Us. We even flew up her daughter from Whittier in L.A., and [livejournal.com profile] trillium_flower drove up from the Southern Oregon coast, so there were several surprises! OMG, so much fun.

I think it took her several minutes to say anything! Her expression was priceless.

Oh, and because I do indeed remember, and I said I'd post it: [livejournal.com profile] trillium_flower is a Pretty Princess plate pusher.

I forgot how much I liked Fiona Apple's first album, Tidal. Don't get me wrong, I love the other two as well. But taken as whole albums, I think I still prefer the first one.

Her singing is more skilled on the other two, especially Extraordinary Machine, the newest. But it's far more raw on this one. Hell, the whole album is. And given a choice between raw emotion, and a more refined sound, I'll take raw emotion any day. Hence how much I enjoy Janis Joplin, for instance. Or as I pointed out to people last night, I've heard the Natalie Merchant version of "Because the Night," and the Patti Smith version, and y'know what? I really really like the Patti Smith version better, even though Natalie Merchant is by far a "better" singer.

So, yeah; reading a long fanfiction and listening to Fiona Apple, and I'm the only person in the house currently, life is damn good.

EDIT: Advantage to my dad's super-nice headphones--I just noticed that one of the instruments in the song "Pale September," is a hammered dulcimer.

Pianos work like huge hammered dulcimers. Harpsichords actually pluck the strings--hence their name. But all the notes are the same volume, because of the way it plucked the strings. The piano was originally called the piano-forte, which is Italian for soft-loud. They were named such because how hard you hit the keys determined the volume of the note.

*curtsies* That was your useless knowledge for the day.

I found a recipe for vegan ranch dressing, messed around with it (mostly because I was running low on Vegenaise), and used it to put away a whole bag of salad.

Heh. Now if only I had some french fries.

I'm apparently on a one-woman campaign to disprove the idea that vegans are health freaks or something.

Ah hell, I love this song.

Because the Night )

I'm in a Fiona Apple/Radiohead/and apparently Patti Smith kinda mood. Huh.
aprilstarchild: (the four houses are NOT)
Have I ever mentioned how much I like the song There, There, from Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief"? I have? Well, I'm going to mention it again, okay?

I love this song.

"We are accidents, waiting to happen...."

*music-gasm*

just for my own notes )

I just remembered I'm supposed to be at work at seven am tomorrow. When doing Rx faxes, I have to be early, but only on Monday. Grrr. I should be taking a shower etc.

Just finished reading this and OMGWTF!

*iz dead*

Waaaah! Plot twists!!

It's long, it's good. There's some slashy bits but they are not, by far, the focus of the plot. It's basically one person's version of what might happen in book seven. Except with some, uh, stuff; that JKR would never write. Nope.

If you do peruse the story: When there's a link in the story, it leads to artwork. [livejournal.com profile] glockart did several of them, excuse my fangirly squealing, but she just kicks so much ass. And she did one of the big plot twist near the end that made me do a little *shriek!*-y thing in my seat.

Okay, time for the next chapter of Becoming Neville, and then shower and bed, k? K.

I am, as usual, a liar.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] glockart is where [livejournal.com profile] glockgal posts all of her art, in all fandoms, including what seems to me to be some very odd picture ideas given to her by other people.

But her HP website is over here, and her art gives me the fangirly wibbles. She's just a good artist, period. She mostly works in watercolors. I think what I like best about her art is the feeling of movement in them.

I just got a good case of the giggles, though, because I've realized that her Marauders-era art (aka when Harry's parents were alive) shows them in time-appropriate attire. As in, there's a picture of James and Sirius, and they're wearing bell-bottoms. *evil giggles*

EDIT, pt two:

OMG. Tonks is hot.

That is all. And yes, it's "work safe".
