Me, with a paycheck freshly deposited in the bank, going shopping? Mega dangerous.

Oy vey.

I still have a few people on my list. Too many of the things I got today were for people I already have things for! Gaaah.

To top it off, tomorrow I have to pay for my contacts and a copay for them to put tiny golf-tee-shaped pieces of silicone in my tear drains.

Managed to go into Lush and only buy a couple things that weren't on my list. Managed to go into Lint and only buy knitting needles (two circs, a 10 and a 10.5, a cable needle, yarn sewing needles). I didn't even get all the needles on my list--I'm going to end up with a bunch of hats that are unfinished tubes until I can get double-pointed needles in size 8, 10, and 10.5. At least with knitting needles you only have to buy them once. Assuming I don't lose them, or decide to knit something else that requires the same size needles before I'm done with the first thing.

Bought the underwear for the person whose name I drew in the Yule Panty Exchange. Spent way more than I was planning to--almost $30 (she doesn't read LJ, so she won't see this). I have no idea what kind of underwear she actually wears. I took a gamble. I hope she likes them. The return policy of the place I bought them sucks.

Except for the soft tofu I forgot, I have the ingredients for something like three or four recipes of baked goods. I was going to go to that fundraiser for the Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary, but tomorrow is my only real chance to do some baking and tally up who's still on my list.

So: shortbread (that's an experiment--good margarine instead of butter), pumpkin cookies, [livejournal.com profile] webtar's coffee cake, brownies, what else? I wanna make those yummy swirled cookies (where you take sugar cookie dough and chocolate cookie dough, make'em flat, roll them up, and slice--spirals!), but I need a recipe. I know I have one somewhere, I think in Laurel's Kitchen. I'll have to check.

Shopping list: Soft tofu, more vanilla!

Aw shit, I was going to do my laundry. No time now. Grrr. Tomorrow, then. Now? Finish eating, put away leftovers, do dishes. Take shower and collapse into bed.

The Longest Night

It was the longest night,
people gathered from near and far,
in small groups and in large.
To share their fears and grief,
and the shadows in their hearts.
A year like no other, this was,
testing us beyond what we'd ever imagined.

Day after day, week after week
we found ourselves growing
and becoming sturdy
because there was no other choice.

Then the Solstice fires were lit
and the candles passed
and the light of the new year's dawning
lifted our heavy hearts.

And brought us brightness and hope--
brightness and hope
brightness and hope.

It was the longest night,
the longest night.

Love Will Guide Us

Love will guide us, peace has tried us,
hope inside us will lead the way,
on the road from greed to giving.
Love will guide us through the dark night.

If you cannot sing like the angels,
if you cannot speak before thousands,
you can give from deep within you.
You can change this world with your love.

You are like no other being,
what you can give no other can give,
to the future of our precious children,
to the future of this world where we live.

Hear the song of peace within you,
hear the song of peace in your heart.
Spring's new beginning will lead to the harvest,
love will guide us on our way home.

From I Lift My Eyes:

I am solid as a mountain, I am firm as the Earth, I am free!

Happy Winter Solstice! Celebrate the rebirth of the sun!
