I *heart* retreat. Even when it's hard. Even when I'm tired.
I had several people (some of whom have voices I admire) tell me they liked my song from talent show, and that I had a good voice. That made me all kinds of happy. At closing circle I grabbed the microphone and told them that singing has helped my confidence in other ways, and that I loved being around so many women, most of them older than me. I said, "All of you that are older than I am, and in many ways, you're all role models to me....is that scary or what?!?" Which got a good laugh.
They asked us to write down things on big pieces of paper over the last few weeks, with headings like "What does Aurora mean to me?", "Why did I join Aurora?", things like that. Yesterday they read them all off, and laid them out on tables. We each got four star stickers, and were told to put a sticker next to quotes we really resonated with. The most popular ones were gathered together onto one page, I forget what they're going to use it for. In any case, something I wrote got picked. Go me. :^)
I'm so excited about the concert. Holy crap. I think I'm getting the hang of this singing thing.
Now if only I could figure out how to make my chest voice go higher. I hate how breathy and strained I sound on higher stuff that's in the alto one range. I can only seem to pull it off if I'm singing loud--there's a high D in Ode To Joy that I can pull off, which never ceases to surprise me! Especially since the exact same note sucks when I sing it during There Is a Garden.
Random bad joke:
Question: What happens when you drop a piano down a mine shaft?
....
Answer: A flat minor. *groan* I love bad puns.
attackdesire and Stacy and Lori are full of them. BTW,
5minutelimit, Lori says hi.
Contacts update: I figured out why my vision kept blurring. My eyes are just dry! But, like, constantly. So irritating, literally. I discovered this when I went outside this morning. There was a chilly breeze, my eyes watered, and
boom! Spotlessly sharp vision.
This realization means I went through two entire little vials of eyedrops today. But the water would evaporate and leave behind the lubricant stuff, making my eyes feel all sticky. Eeeewww.
On an amusing note, however; every time I went to put in the drops, I would first attempt to remove the glasses I wasn't wearing!
Speaking of which, I just had one pop out. Found it. Rinsed it out (it had fallen on the floor!), put some stuff on it and popped it back in. Never had that happen before. Yikes.
Dishes. Then a bath, for once. I have far too many bath things now, and need to start using them up.
Bought presents for people. Yup. This and the contacts and my drugs and...oops. Short on cash again. *headslap*
