So over the last couple days, I keep thinking to myself, I wonder if I should get a part-time job during the holidays. Y'know, maybe just on Saturdays or something. I could probably handle it since it would be temporary, and I could use the money. The first place that pops into mind is Finnegan's Toy Store. I've wanted to work there over the holidays for ages and ages.

They're just the coolest toy store, ever. The toys they sell require creativity and imagination. There's nothing there linked to a TV show or movie, unless said TV show or movie was originally a book (for instance, they have a few The Little Prince items). They have crafts, stickers. Dress-up clothes of all kinds. Books galore. Tons of puppets. Lots of cute little things, like plastic monkeys that can hang off of things, and monster finger puppets (Boo got a couple of those for his birthday today, actually). Different kinds of mini musical instruments. Also, candy you can't get other places, and a gazillion stickers.

The place is literally on the library max stop. Directions: Get off max. Cross street.

I've always taken friends there who were visiting from out of town, or if I was with a friend wandering downtown and bored. "Let's go to Finnegan's!!" Bink and I spent an afternoon once holding "wands" that were plastic tubes with liquid and glitter, chasing each other around yelling spells from Harry Potter. I've spent a good fifteen minutes at a time with the display area for spinning tops. I've talked back to puppets of various kinds, blown through kazoos, perused a book of 500 illustrated nouns in French. I've used their machine that prints out a sheet of stickers with your picture framed with a Hello Kitty character. How many people can you fit into one shot, anyways??

Favorite thing I ever saw there: Fistful of Flies! It was forty or so plastic, rather realistic-looking flies. On the back of the cardboard thingie it had all this scientific information about houseflies. But I laughed so hard because the name, "Fistful of Flies!", was all bright and cheery with colorful lettering, as if to say; how did you live before you had a fistful of flies?!?

They have an adult Finnegan's, too. They sell things like all their Hello Kitty stuff, boxing nuns, odd greeting cards. Pirate tv trays, Elvis shower curtains, and now they have knitting books/kits too.

So I happen to be walking by it on the way to the 15 bus stop to get to Boo's birthday party at Laurelhurst park, and what should I see? A sign in the door saying, "Hiring permanent part and full time positions." I walked in, and apparently for no reason I can think of, I have to be there the whole time I'm filling out the application. I was on my way somewhere else so I couldn't stay, but I'm going in their tomorrow. The full-time position is approximately 10 to 6 because that's when they're open. As long as they have benefits that aren't worse than what I have now, I'll take the job if it's offered.

I could probably get it. I love the store and what it sells. I like being around kids, I'm good with the public. I have five years of solid retail experience. I'm energetic. How could I not get the job?

Bonus: It's on the max. Double bonus: Working downtown means I can live damn near anywhere in Portland. I can hear SE calling my name, can you? Triple bonus: I won't have to wake up at six in the goddamn morning. I can stick something closer to my natural sleep schedule, which is going to bed at midnight or so and waking up at eightish.

OMG. *crosses fingers* I'm going to bed now, and I'm dressing halfway decent for work tomorrow.

EDIT: They have a website. Judging by their picture, I'd have some hot coworkers!!
