Jun. 14th, 2005 07:05 pmHey, did you know that wet painted curbs are slippery?
I was running late for the bus and took a spectacular tumble onto a sidewalk. Thankfully it was 6am, no one was around to see it. Especially because I yiped when it happened and had a total "I want my mommy!" kind of moment.
Scraped a tiny part of my hand, not too bad--it looked a lot worse while it was dirty (my whole hand looked scraped), and I didn't have a chance to wash it until I got to work half an hour later. I don't think I got all the dirt out--some of it just got ground in there. Yuck.
Also found out: no one has neosporin-ish type stuff at work. The lab has betadine, but that's not quite the same thing--neosporin is more likely to stick around. Plus it has painkillers in it sometimes.
Anyhoo. *ahem*
dragon_mintz's brother gets here tomorrow. So as of tonight I have to make sure I get all packed up and whatnot and then drag all my crap to work and then my parents' house. And hope that said brother doesn't totally flip out.
The fact that this is a big deal is irksome.
On the other hand: I ran into my youngest brother's fiancee while I was on the way back from work and she was on her way to her job at Sushi-town. I told her I had a girlfriend, that that's where I was going, and that I hadn't told my parents yet. Ashlee lives with them, and said that my dad, who knows I like girls as well as boys...he keeps trying to tell my mom that, and she refuses to even consider the thought. *cringe* So on the one hand, my dad will probably be okay with it (although he'll probably ask rude personal questions), but my poor mom, I'm going to shatter her illusions and my dad, knowing him, will enjoy rubbing it in. I told Ashlee that my parents will probably end up liking
dragon_mintz simply because she eventually wants kids. My parents are so freaking weird in that department. Well, I think they're weird.
I just had the most random thing happen. The mouse stopped working. With a little experimentation I realized that everything else still did, and I've found out by trial and error how to tab through various windows. ("tab...no, that's not it. Tab+ctrl, no, that's just in firefox....Tab+alt...ah ha!") The red light was still blinking (it's optical, and wireless to boot), so I was confused. Nevertheless, I figured out how to take out the batteries....and it was wet in there. It was clear and slightly slimey, and was just in the battery case. WTF? I pulled out the old batteries, wiped off anything damp, popped new ones in, voila!! A working mouse. Go me.
Was talking to Athir on the phone last night. He lives with his family right now, and he has two sisters that are 15 and 8, right? Well, we're chatting along, and suddenly the 15-yr-old grabs the phone. "Is this April??"
"Um, yeah, why?"
"He talks about yoooooou!!" In a sing-song tone of voice. While in the background I can hear him yelling, "Goddamit! Gimme the phone!" We talked for a couple seconds and then she gave the phone back. He was all embarrassed and I was just laughing. I'm so glad that both of my younger siblings are male...
