I finally gave in to the temptation to start watching Sherlock from the beginning again. When his face came on screen for the first time I actually did this twitchy flailing thing and had an adrenaline rush.

*rolls eyes at self*

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've turned down reading a really good (if slow) fanfic to watch/read the original thing said fanfic was based on. My fangirly behavior is usually kinda strange, really: I watched the LoTR movies over and over as more of a social thing, I never went alone and still only own the first one on DVD somewhere and haven't watched it in years. I read all the HP books when they came out but I've skipped half the movies and I did so little re-reading that often when I started a new book I couldn't remember what was going on. (Did I ever re-read the fifth or sixth one at all? I really enjoyed them.) I almost never participated in any conjecture about what was going to happen next in the books, either. I was happy to see it unfold as I read it, and then I'd madly hop into the fanfiction. In terms of HP, I've surely at least a hundred times more pages of fanfiction than all my reading of the actual books.

And for all that I love the 4th Doctor, I have fallen asleep while watching his episodes before. Shawn and I do tend to watch them late at night.

But I have the urge to watch Sherlock repeatedly. Some of the fics out there are fantastic, but after reading a bunch of them I realized I really wanted to watch the show again, in order from the beginning. And over more days instead of gorging on them almost as fast as I possibly could.

I'm really hoping I can talk Shawn into watching them when he gets back. I think he might enjoy them, as long as he can ignore my mad crush on Sherlock.

Speaking of Shawn. Tomorrow morning I'm catching an Amtrak bus (did you know they have buses? They do! So much nicer than Greyhound) to meet with Shawn in Astoria, and we're probably going to visit the usual spots (we're going to the museum this time, dammit, which we've always skipped 'cause of the price) and we have a hotel room that night! It's the first time we've planned ahead of time to stay in a hotel. If Astoria had a proper hostel we'd probably do that, but the closest thing is the Norblad, which is, quite honestly, less of a hostel and more of a flop house, the folks there seem like they're a half-step away from being homeless. We've stayed there before and had a private room and it was okay, but it's not a destination. The place where I got us a room is a block away from a bunch of awesome stuff (like the Ft. George brewpub) and is old-fashioned in that the rooms are all small and private but the bathrooms are at the end of the hall. The reviews online are all pretty good (although I'm hoping they have an electric fan I can put in the room for white noise, apparently the walls are rather thin) and considering it's right in downtown the price was very good.

Dunno if we'll spend the day there on Thursday or not, the weather is predicted to be rather terrible and there are morning and afternoon buses back to Portland. If we take the later bus we'll miss the opening parade for Pedalpalooza, but honestly, I'm okay with that.

ANYWAY. Back to Sherlock. And knitting my scarf.

ETA:

Awwww yeah. And damn right I'm bringing my knitting with me. Two hours and change each way on the bus, plus any time I'm sitting still while we're there. Had to note my stopping point before I leave tomorrow.

Oh Sherlock (the show), how are you so amazing?! Oh Sherlock (the character), why are you so handsome? Oh Benedict Cumberbatch, how do you manage to have such a baby face in your mid-thirties? And those lips. They reduce me to slightly suggestive incoherent noises.

I've been staying up till dawn how many days in a row now? And now I gotta get to bed soon 'cause I gotta get up at like 7:30. Hahahahaha.
